What Defensive Driving Mean To you
Defensive driving means driving to save life, time and money inspite any condition around you or action of others.
To practice defensive driving there are 5 key elements we are going to consider
KNOWLEDGE
A driver must know the traffic regulations of the country and also by-laws and other requirements of various local government areas.
He must know the correct procedures while behind the wheel, hazards and how to avoid them.
ALERTNESS
A driver must be attentive, awake and aware of what is happening around him. He should not be distracted. Driving requires 100% concentration. He is alone operator unlike the pilot who has co-pilots, radar, and air controller to help him. It solely depend on him to spot danger and take appropriate step to avoid it.
FORESIGHT
This is the ability to anticipate immediate and long term eventualities and plan for them. The driver predicts the likely actions of other road users and prepares to avoid collision.
GOOD JUDGMENT
Means using our common sense, experience and intuition to chose wisely from a number of choices in time. E.g the appropriate time to overtake.
SKILL
Skill is needed to handle the vehicle effectively in basic and emergency conditions either braking, riding off the road passing, changing lane, or time of applying a horn.
If all road users could apply all this measures accident will be reduced.

Defensive driving. It takes an expert driver not an amateur to do this. Especially if you are in Nigeria. It is much more complicated struggling it out with other road users.
