Social Lens No.5: Like A Child

in #life5 years ago (edited)

This is the continuation of the Social Lens series. I hope you enjoy it 😎

Why 'Social Lens'?

It is called Social, because I am interested in everything related to humanity, how people live and act, what we do consciously and unconsciously, how we effect the world around us and treat one another.

Lens in this context refers to -- wait for it -- the lens of the camera I will be using to take the pictures of what I am seeing (that at least is pretty obvious...), but it also refers to my viewpoint - everything I watch and see is observed through my eyes. There isn't really a way around that of course, and as long as one is aware of that it shouldn't be much of a problem. After all, life is experienced individually and every point of view can add to the greater whole.

Children look at the world differently than adults. They see it from a different angle due to their smaller physical size, but they also see it differently in another, more profound sense. They see it often through innocent eyes which are not burdened by the issues of society. They see it more freely and more borderless; they can move much more freely through the world which tends to often wear adults down with expectations, norms, beliefs, complex problems, and the like. Children can jsut be children.

Sometime along the way of growing up we lose this sense of untroubledness, this sense of freedom as we get integrated into the social system. And as we adopt and get molded into out society's beliefs.

Playfulness is so important. Not just as a concept or idea - but in actuality. Move to this realm of playfulness and wonder and begin to see how your mind becomes a little lighter.

It cannot be a coincidence that in Buddhism there is a saying along the lines of "let your mind become like a child again"...

It is an ancient wisdom that has be discovered again and again with every generation.
