Busy 忙

“Busy” is almost like a slogan for many people living in today’s world. Is it necessary? Is it healthy? What is a life better than being busy?

Busy life-style in most cases is optional and avoidable. The busy life that many people have today is a result of the life-style they have adopted consciously or unconsciously. If people desire a life-style with higher income than just meeting the need, they have to work harder or even to take up second or third job. By so doing, they are definitely busier than they should be.

Busy life-style is not healthy as it can affect a person’s emotion as well physical well-being. If it is normal for a person to work forty hours per week, yet the person is stretching oneself to work eighty hours. It is possible but usually at the expense of sleeping time, family time etc. As time passes by, it will not be good for the body and the crucial relationship.

The Chinese character for the word, “busy” is made up of “heart and death” (忄和 亡). It implies that busy is a condition of a dead heart. Therefore, it is vital to utilise the heart prior to stepping into a desired life-style. In other words, we need to use the heart to consider before pursuing a life-style. The heart is used to ponder and decide whether such life-style is necessary and healthy. For an ancient proverb has relevantly stated,
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

“忙碌”是许多人生活在当今世界的口号。有必要忙吗？忙是否健康呢？有什么是比忙碌更好的生活呢？

在大多数情况，忙碌的生活方式是一个选择，也是可以避免的。今天许多忙碌的人是因为有意或无意之间所采纳的生活方式所造成的。如果有人不仅仅是要满足日常的需求，而是渴望获得高收入的生活方式，那么他们就必须更加努力地工作，甚至要从事第二或第三份工作，他们如此做，他们肯定会非常忙碌。

忙碌的生活方式其实并不健康，因为它会影响一个人的情绪和身体健康。想象一下，如果一个人每周正常工作时间是四十个小时，而这个人却选择工作八十个小时，他雖然作到了，但是代价乃是牺牲了睡眠、家庭相聚时间等。随着时间，身体健康受损，也不能维持和培养与家人健全的关系。

“忙”这个字是由”心与死”组成。它意味着忙即是心死了。因此，在踏入想要的生活方式之前，先要以心探索至为重要。换句话说，在追求任何生活方式之前，我们需要先用心考虑，即用心思考所要的生活方式是否必要和健康。诚如一句古老的箴言:
“你要保守你心，勝過保守一切，因為一生的果效是由心發出!”
