Where to study Russian émigrés

in #life5 years ago (edited)

A few years ago we were faced with the choice of where to give a Russian child to study in Bulgaria. And they sent me to a Russian school, but then they changed their minds. Now I want to share my thoughts then.

Giving the child to the "native" school, we first of all thought about our fears for him and for ourselves. We were afraid not to cope with the situation and were afraid that he would not cope. We did not know the language, he did not know either. We did not understand how we would communicate with the teachers. We were afraid that in the event of conflict or misunderstanding, we could not resolve the situation in a "foreign" environment.

I think these fears are normal and we are not alone in this.

Another factor was also crucial: the native language. At the age of 6, the child is still too small and able to switch off from his native language, giving preference to another. And for us this moment was very important, because I know a lot of examples (people very close to me) when older children forgot Russian in local schools. I was very afraid of this, I was afraid that I could not cope with it without school.

No, I do not regret that we did it then. By the way, I never regret anything at all - practice shows that we always make the right decisions at that moment in time. But then I began to think what to do next? Since I understood that we got what we wanted and more than this school is unable to give us anything. We are people who are not going to return to Russia and get a higher education there. No matter what European country we move to in the future, we don’t need a Russian school diploma there, or rather, it doesn’t make life easier for us, unlike the Bulgarian school certificate, whose exam scores are generally accepted and equated to participate in competitions of European universities.

Like it or not, and will have to pour into the environment. And if we, adults, still somehow can afford to refuse it, then the child does not. Because he must somehow continue to live here. He needs to adapt, to know the language and realities, to study further and somewhere to work once. That is, we will not be able to guard and protect him forever: the world will have to give it up anyway.

And we went to the Bulgarian school.

Some more influential moments:

  1. The Russian Embassy School does not teach the Bulgarian language.
  2.  Bad give foreign languages (English), unlike the Bulgarian schools.
  3.  It turned out that the program was far behind the one that is being given now in the Russian Federation.
  4. The competence of many experts is a big question.
  5. It is very expensive for this level, while Bulgarian schools are free for Russian PMLs. And more recently, for VNZhistov.
  6.  80% of Bulgarians leave the Russian school after the 6th grade, because after the 7th, they pass a very important exam - a mathur.

What would I do then, having today's experience? Would give immediately to the Bulgarian school. And the issue with the Russian language and literature would be diligently resolved at home itself. Of course, we would have had a hard time, but we would have quickly assimilated and learned the language. And we would save. Because the Bulgarians took 800 euros ($ 1,028) per year from Russian (residence permit) pupils against $ 1,440 in the Russian embassy school for elementary (then more and more expensive).

Now the education of Russian citizens in Bulgarian schools is generally free, and in the Russian (the embassy school) - paid so far.

Very interesting information. So, you are afraid your kid will forget what you already taught him? I think as long as you keep practicing with him every day, the chances of that are very slim.
