Out with the old

An early start to spring cleaning.

I started to realize how cluttered and dusty our home was getting after our most recent shoot. My first thought- do we really need all the comics on our book shelf? If so, then where can we place them so that they’re easily accessible? My solution...a mini library! I’ll go into detail about that later. I want to make sure I have the space to pull it off first.

I had a chat with a friend earlier in the day and he’s got the cleaning bug as well.

@jthiessen and I are thinking about minimizing where we can. Where the thought came from is a bit unclear. Maybe it’s because spring is around the corner or maybe it’s been implanted into our minds since Marie Kondo is still trending on the inter webs. Honestly, I haven’t watched a single episode of her Netflix show but I have seen a couple of mini segments floating around YouTube.

No matter where they idea stemmed from, I’m determined to clear out all the mess!

It has taken me longer than expected because there are so many dense areas in the house. I also have to stop what I’m doing to put @guthrie into a mental chokehold since he’s stubborn and refuses to do anything without help. 🙄 Right now I’m trying my hardest to get him used to doing things independently. Anyhow, with the time I was able to find, I organized @kommienezuspadt’s shirts which are pictured in this post. I enjoyed the whole process and now I’ve moved onto my tops but they aren’t all the same style so it’s a bit of a challenge to fold. Right now they’re piled in a basket which I have little desire to sort through.

Thanks for stopping by!

Have you started your spring cleaning?🦊

very nicely done!!! I always try to be clean like you but you are somehow in some other level of folding your clothes! :D <3

Thanks @mamalikh13! Fold your shirts in thirds and stack them vertically! I don’t know why I waited this long to do it!

I shall try this when the new batch of laundry comes in! <3 :D

check it out! :D
thanks for the advice!
feeling Japanese right now! haha <3

Nice!! What’s funny is that I usually don’t fold like this unless I’m traveling. Dunno why I didn’t start this habit at home sooner!

haha I know! it's easy and damn it's freaking satisfying! <3

It's kind of attempting to go into autumn here so no I haven't started any spring cleaning ;D However I am constantly amused finding myself on other people's wavelengths so frequently lately (or perhaps they're on mine? I don't even know). I don't have the cleaning bug as such but there is a low level (as in I'm trying to do something about it because I should but because of the usual I'm really lethargic) drive to clean and sort as we might be moving in the not to distant future (freaking finally).

Those rolled shirts look really nicely sorted :) I tried to sort my drawers like that once to fit everything in one layer but it didn't last long as I kept making a mess if I looked for something specific XD

Hope the child managed to do the things you wanted him to do without needing you to stand there the entire time coddling him on :)

Oh gosh, I envy the attempted autumn. Today feels like true spring but it’s going to start snowing tomorrow. 🥺 Whyyyyyyyyy. Spring is such a tease. Slowly cleaning and packing up your things for a move is a very very smart move! When I was still in retail management, I had to pack up many stores to ready them for closures and the only way to do it was to slowly clean up through the months left. You’ll be really thankful on the day of the move!

I’m afraid they’ll get messed up in a weeks time. I really won't know until @kommienezuspadt comes back from his trip! 😆

I’m trying to consistently leave him to finish his own projects. Repeatedly reminding him that he’s very capable and very smart. The compliments work sometimes but not most of the time because he’s lazy!

gosh you are such an inspiring person foxi, i haven't done a proper spring cleaning since forever since i'm terrible with organising things... my brain just got overwhelmed with the task before i even begin so i always put spring cleaning aside under my favourite category called "later"

XD

really lovely to see the folding of each clothing articles into the drawer like that... the tidiness gives a sense of satisfaction and order :D :D :D

Aww, you give me too much credit! The boys are the same way, their brains aren’t wired for organization so they’ll instantly lose motivation when faced with a mess.

I do feel a sense of satisfaction! @kommienezuspadt told me that he feels like he’s staying in a fancy hotel! 😆

I also have these periods when I feel that I have to clean everything at home and organized/re-organized all the stuff that I own. Luckily, it only happens from time to time as it takes me a week to do everything the way I want, lol. And then keeping it the same way is very challenging..

The thought of doing it comes also all of the sudden and I think it could have something to do with the emotional state as well. Sometimes we just need to clear our heads and cleaning is a very good way of doing it as you focus on what you do and you forget all your sorrows.. Maybe it's similar with you :)

Good luck with the projects! I'm sure that you'll find the best way to sort your tops :)

I’m the same, it takes me a week to get everything looking the way I want. If I lived alone then MAYBE it would stay the same but since I don’t then I never know what’s going to happen! 😅

I do the most cleaning when I’m feeling suffocated. A tidy home cleanses the soul so it very similar. :D

I think I’ll have to face facts and donate a large chunk of my clothes. They always say that if it hasn’t been touched for 6 months then it should be donated.

Wow, @vermillionfox it's so funny how this sort of Spring clean/purge hits us. Yesterday was my first full day back at Toad Hall and the first thing I did was empty out one of my dressers in my dressing room/studio in the house. I put all the clothes in bags and brought them out into the living room, put on music and made, keep and donate piles. I was happy to see the 'keep' pile was quite small.

I want to do a good minamilism purge this year I think :) Even in art supplies.

Yay! I’m happy that you’re back at Toad Hall and amazed that you were able to donate so much. I need to rid myself of the unnecessary attachment to my clothes. 😆

Let’s hope that we can both achieve our minimalistic goals!!

It is great to have your own library. I had it for years. Most I gave to my eldest. Time for me to clean up. The less the better.

You made a great start

That’s sweet that you were able to pass it to your eldest. When I get to purging our books then I’ll probably donate a majority of them to the school or free library.
