PTSD Journal Entry/Informational Rant

Its been a while since I have gotten a journal entry in. Well this isn’t gonna be a typical journal entry, today I want to talk about how many hoops us as veterans have to jump through to get this sub par care to fix a problem they helped cause, with my medication. I was seeing my Dr for almost a year when she had personal problems then had to take emergency leave to assure that her unborn child was ok. In no way what so ever is anger pointed into her direction, protect yours at all cost! My beef is the unprofessional ignorant staff that works for the Veterans Affairs Department here in Syracuse NY.

When my Dr had to suddenly take her absence I knew eventually I would have a temp Dr in her place but this was thrown from left field and 3 months early. My wife and I requested an actual doctor as I wasnt having the best luck with the medication, and in a very fragile state mentally. They told me no you have no option in the matter and gave me a Nurse practitioner, in the world of medication for mental health its the VA’s answer to save money. Not to discredit NP’s but this particular NP almost killed me. She did not prep on any of my history, my treatment plan with my original doctor. It was rough i didn't know her and she started to immediately play around with the meds and the one she prescribed was nowhere near something I should have been on which brought me within 1” of me taking my own life.

Now past all the problems with the medication. I waited 2 months to see my original doctor again, finally and my first appointment gets cancelled... Well as my content has shown and I have spoke on in the little content I do get out this medication wasn't any better. Matter of fact I slept 3/4 of the day away and was up only when the house was asleep. I knew there was an unofficial appointment slot during a time after hour normal hours but I asked for it next time she was scheduled and was told no you have to wait. The appt that was suggested wasn't until then end of June. Well that wasn't happening I'm done being a juggling act for the VA so I wanted results! So my wife called my PTSD doctor and he herd the rage and frustration in my voice that he needed to get something done, which I very loosely trusted him to do, but he pulled through he got me on the next scheduled days unofficial appointment time.

The point I'm making with this post is to bring to light exactly what the cancelling of appointments, the juggling of medication, and then making it hard to see the prescriber really is. I don't trust the VA nor anyone! I don't know to top it off, its time the VA starts listening to the patients so we can stop losing Veterans. So some of us can find piece and stop spending our precious 1 shot lives fighting an internal war.

The VA seems to be better at making veterans more sick than truly helping you get healthy. A big part of this is how doctors are taught to treat symptoms and big pharm's involvement in the medical world. They are taught to treat pretty much everything with a pill. We see pill ads on TV that surely describe at least one symptom that everyone in the world experiences at some time. Chances are you may relieve one symptom or the other with a pill, but then become a host to more medical issues.

Doctors are trained to keep you sick. Sound crazy? Think about it. If you were cured of your illnesses, then they wouldn't be profiting off you. If you stay sick, you're a steady paycheck to them coming in periodically. It's "job security". It also keeps the money rolling in for the pharmaceutical companies profiting off your illness.

I quit taking anything from the VA a few years ago, and while I still suffer from several symptoms I think overall I'm doing better. I try to find things to keep me occupied and optimistic about life. Its not always easy, and I feel depression usually at some point throughout every day. Sometimes I just want to scream out and run away from everything.

I hope you're able to find something that truly makes you feel better. Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can really help, and it's free to do at home. It may not work for you, but it's probably more beneficial than anything the VA is doing for you. We're all here to talk in the veteran's community also if you need someone to talk to you.

Best of luck,
your friend,
@rakkasan84

I finally have my Doctor I started these medications back, she understands my overall view and goal of my treatment. She fights for me, I will be elaborating a little bit more in my next post hopefully today, I appreciate you for being here for me through this whole ordeal. The worst thing the VA could have done was to allow me to become un-sedated, because now they have one pissed off combat veteran who feels attacked by the very organization that should be there to help me. You are absolutely right they do not benefit from me getting any better.

@veteranforcrypto when you were in the service you like myself learned how to

A. Adapt and over come
B. Adjust your shot group
C. Ensure victory at all times, for the day a Ranger allows the slightest possibility of defeat he has then accepted defeat.. and that isn't acceptable.
D. Last but not least Keep on pushing.

I'm sure your aware but I wanted to make sure the above summary isnt taken as though I'm disrespecting you as every service knows those are just a few of the many things we pick up but the reason I mention the above is because it works I battled the VA for a year no rating but yet I was sligtly disfigured still with no mouth no nothing.. unable to sleep anxiety you know the symptoms so i wont bring them up point is it dawned on me log it all, get civilian doctors they're helpful and most importantly bring attention to them spot light them your rating will get done and you'll get your back pay. I went from 0% to 90% and I've been stable on90 since 2014 feelfree to reach out of you need help or any advice I'm always here for my fellow veterans. Best of luck good to see others on steemit.

@carterx7 thank you for the above list I follow it daily without even realizing there was a list to word it. I live my life by it! no disrespect taken at all we are Brothers in Arms forever a bond that is never broken. Surprisingly my Disability though it took some time was an easy, was open shut case to whether I was qualified I ended with 90% Along with UI 10% To equal 100% pay rate, as well now my wife is being paid as my caregiver due to my memory problems and over hell these medications are causing me. And the sad thing is they are trying to put her through the ringer and that is where I have decided that no longer can I stay silent and No longer will I just be orchestrated like a puppet. I will not give up, and I damn sure will over come the obstacles the VA is throwing. And I will be doing it the right way, they have only motivated me to write more. Thanks again for your comment it is extremely motivating 😎 Thanks for the follow as well tossed one back 😁

It's good to see you writing about the whole experience. I agree the VA needs to address many issues. The anger you feel towards them and that isolated feeling from having to fight the very people who are supposed to help you is not uncommon. We're still losing 22 veterans a day(with different levels of VA interaction) but the fact is...the VA is interacting with Veterans and you would expect to see a dent in that figure.

Keep fighting. It's frustrating and overwhelming, I know.

As my grandpa would say.

"an old vet never dies...just fades away"

Don't let them make you wanna fade away.

The VA has been overwhelmed with new vets from the wars on terror that they want you to just fade away. Do not give them the comfort of this stay bold and in their face. The squeaking wheel gets the oil. Many times the meds that are given to many vets are what makes them fade away so they are easier to control and do not make a fuss to the inability of the VA for treatment of vets.
