As good old Sydney town continues to grow up, more and more old icons are being torn up to make way for new ones. Late last year more of the Wynyard underground train station was reopened after major renovations. The original and iconic wooden escalators that had been at the Station since 1931 had been removed and replaced with more modern ones.

But Instead of dumping them in an old clay pit, as has become the familiar habit with Sydney'shistorical icons, the old timber escalators were transformed into one of the most engaging pieces of public art. Known as Interloop the installation created by artist Chris Fox reused the old materials, and now hangs from the station ceiling.

It's well worth a visit!
