Friday arrived and with it a new weekend, time to rest for some, others to go out and enjoy with their friends either having a beer, a cocktail or another drink to encourage conversation, or as in my case to practice sport or some hobby. For those who like cocktails or drinks like Rum, today I bring you the story of a world-renowned drink.

We headed to the island of Cuba in the late 19th century where it was one of the last colonies under Spanish rule. After several attempts in which the Cubans fought for their independence, it was not until 1898 that the first shouts of freedom began to be heard.

The United States intervenes in this struggle, apparently helping the Cuban people without any interest, after the Americans began to win several battles against the Spaniards, the people gave them their confidence and opened the doors to them as if they were one of their own.

As a result of the ties formed, trade began between them, including the arrival of Coca Cola or Koke from North America.

It was in a bar in Havana, when some American sailors arrived for their precious drink, since the heat was insatiable, the bartender decided to add the most typical alcoholic drink from Cuba, rum, a little lemon juice, added ice and mixed it. The sailors were fascinated by this drink, and enthusiastic about their victories, they began to drink a toast, and one of their phrases was "For a Free Cuba".

It is said that one of these meetings while the sailors were toasting and repeating so much of the same phrase, a captain of the U.S. Navy, gave the name to this drink for the first time, just as he brought this drink to his country and from then on he became internationalized.

Today it is one of the most famous typical Cuban drinks in the world, and sold in bars, restaurants or parties. It can be said that it was a mixture of the tastes of two nations that were once very close.

In my opinion, it is the preferred cocktail for most Venezuelans as well as me and my friends.

Preparation

Put the ice cubes in the glass, which usually has a capacity of 300 ml, then add the rum, then add the Coca Cola and finally the lemon juice, then mix and enjoy this brilliant creation.

Final recommendations

It is preferable to use Coca Cola for its flavor when mixed with rum and lemon, although on other occasions any other cola-flavored drink. Rum can also be made from white rum or rum-based liqueur, of course it will not taste the same. Simply because the drink since its creation is magnificent.
