History of the Yellow and Red Cards
Hello friends Steemit, I hope everyone is well and your investments continue to grow with the passing of the days. On this occasion I bring to the fans of the history of football and those who like me practice this beautiful sport the origin of the cards used in the matches to admonish the players who commit infractions to the rules.
Throughout history there have been many changes to football since its inception, but perhaps none more important than the "yellow" and "red" cards, which are used to penalize offenders on and off the pitch at a football match, can also be used to warn managers and their assistants that they may somehow come into breach of previously established regulations for the good behaviour of each of them.
The semi-final match between the 1966 World Cup hosts England and Argentina was played at the legendary Wembley Stadium in front of some 90,000 spectators and was led by German referee Rudolf Kreitlein. At that time the warnings were made verbally as the cards did not exist at that time.
The referee who did not speak or understand the Spanish language admonished an Argentine player, according to why he had looked at him badly, while the Argentine player said he was only claiming for faults that did not exist. There was a lot of discussion about what happened, as the Argentines claimed that the judge only tried to delay the match and was very impartial favoring the English team who qualified for the final of that World Cup.
This made Keneth George Aston, better known as Ken Aston, who was an important English FIFA referee, think about a method to overcome the language barrier between referees and players. One day while he was in his car on a London avenue, he stopped at a traffic light and went to detail the colors of this one, he realized that the yellow color, which means caution and the red color which means high, could be implemented in football matches to communicate better with players and in turn explain to spectators why he was sanctioning it.
This is how FIFA endorsed the use of yellow cards that mean calm is the first warning and red cards that are expulsion from the game and the field of play.
The cards debuted for the first time at the opening of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, the first yellow card was for the Mexican Gustavo Peña, as there was no one sent off at that World Cup until the next World Cup in West Germany in 1974 where the Chilean Carlos Caszely received his first red card.
Surely many of us who practice this beautiful sport have already been warned with these cards (in my case they have only shown me yellow cards) but the ideal thing is to keep a fair game and enjoy it with our friends.
Greetings!
