Light the world Week 1

Jesus Christ taught, “Ye are the light of the world.”

Matthew 5:14-16 King James Version (KJV)

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid

Pertinent questions comes to mind when we are asked about how we seek to light the world.
From our communities, homes and peer groups questions could be in some ways such as;

  • How do we put a smile on the faces of the Orphans
  • How do we help families around us who can't feed themselves
  • How do we reach out to a sick friend or fellow some few kilometres from us or those dying in the hospital
  • How do we reach out to the homeless and street beggars around us
  • How often do we put calls across to our peer groups who are home when we relocate to a distant country?

We could light the world by doing amazing Christlike works within our premises and environment then launching globally.

To a visitor, Awadaa community seem very peaceful and homely sequel to their biweekly community meetings, colourful Monthly festivals, and awesome football matches between the villages in the community. it just seem as though all is so perfect with the community. Reverend Father Thompson was posted to the community's parish to oversee the Church in the capacity of the Parish Priest. Fr. Thompson within a fortnight of his arrival at St. Gabriel Catholic Church admired the community's togetherness and encouraged the leaders of the community to keep up the good work they are doing. Within two months of his stay, the Priest's love and admiration for the community relinquished.
"Alas! It was just a mere show off of act of altruism and love to deceive visitors" The Priest thought to himself. Awadaa is a striking opposite to what the founding fathers of the community aimed while establishing it. Peace, unity and selflessness were the driving motives and motto of the founding fathers of the community. In the recent Awadaa community, there is a segregation between the poor and rich. The rich stayed in a nucleated settlement called "Ibhon Awadaa" while the poor were just at the bank of the community river. In essence, the River demarcates the both social classes. The poor people there cross the river daily and weekly to attended Mass (Church Service). The poor ones do menial jobs for the rich and gets paid occasionally.
Saddened by these acts of wickedness and gross hatred, segregation and inadequacy in wealth distribution due to greed, Fr. Thompson knew his work of unity and positive community change and uniform development just got started.
Fr. Thompson thought through several nights on ways he could unite the community and had some ideas which he later put into practice.
Fr. Thompson discussed with the Church elders that they were to relocate the Church to the bank of the river.

"Hell! No!!!! Why do such"?
A Church leader said

Perplexed by his opinion, the Church leaders felt angered and promised him a real battle if he dares such.

"The old Church is dilapidating and thus, we need to change environment and of course, the cool breeze from the river is needed since our weather is always hot."
The Priest said

The Church Elders still disagreed with his words. The Priest was given a preference to speak and present opinions at the community's biweekly meetings and other impromptu meetings he is invited to. During a meeting to usher the new month and in preparation for their monthly festival and football match, the Priest suggested that the community should host the festival and football match at the River side with picnic and live bands to boost the gathering joyous mode.
Again, the community leaders and other elders disagreed.
Later, the Priest preached to them on the need to embrace peace and unity as great virtues for community building and development. He enjoined them to unite and live with the poor to foster long lasting peace and oneness. He also admonished them to reach out to the poor ones among them to reduce any future act of social vices from hatred and envy. He gave reasons why they should at least host the event for the first time at the river side and they all obliged to his genuine convincing reasons.
The community later lived together with no disparity between the rich and the poor
Love was restored by the visitor Priest to Awadaa community

Love is what makes the world more lively and comfortable for us to dwell in. No one can live happily where hatred dominates.
Love is likened to a seed we need to watch mature into a blossom plant and still water it. Like the community from the story, the love instilled by their founding fathers was let to dry up with no water to wet it and keep it growing.
We need Love to Light the world

Thank you @lighttheworld and @gavvet for this amazing contest which seeks to propagate the gospel of our Lord and saviour Jesus.
