Listening- An Art

Listening is an important and indispensable part of Communication. A person should speak less but listen more. But in-general, we listen very less and speak more. We often get confused in listening and Hearing. The Hearing takes place when sound waves strikes the ears but listening is more than just hearing. Understanding the message is known as listening. Our more than 70% of time spent in Speaking, writing and reading.

A good decision maker Listen more and speak less. Listening enables you to acquire more facts so that you can take healthy decisions. Listening helps in building trust. Some time employee wants to say something, that time he wants you to listen rather than hear. In group, if a person fails to listen some instructions, an entire project might fail.
In present world, where companies are focusing more on its customers. So if Companies fail to listen the problems of customers, it can loose its reputation from market. So to avoid problems in business, employee must listen to customers.

Listening can also reduce conflict. How a conflict arise? It arise because if someone feels misunderstood or mistreated. Listen to your coworkers and discover what aspects of the job they find more challenging or rewarding.

Talking Comes normally to people but listening is an art. It requires lots of patience. One develops a good relation with other because of only listening. Other person believes that there is someone who understands him and listen what he wants to say. Steven R Covey Rightly said, Most people don't listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. Dalai Lama also quoted When you talk, you are only repeating what you know; but when you listen, you learn something new. Listening is important because we do this for more information.
So keep listening as it helps in your knowledge and will change your perspective.
