Liverpool Vs Burnley - English Premier League - Sunday 10th March 12:00 GMT - Match Preview

in #liverpool5 years ago

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged fans with tickets for tomorrow's match have an early night on Saturday in a bid to ensure a great atmosphere at Anfield as his side take on Burnley. It's a lunchtime kickoff and crowds during previous games at this time have been a little flat, with many likely only just waking up minutes before heading out the door after a late session the night before. Cynics have said that it's just Klopp getting his excuses in early after blaming win, snow and opposition substitutes for previous poor performances but there can be no denying support from home fans can inspire a team to give a bit extra and Klopp knows his side cannot afford any more stumbles in their hunt for the league title.

Things are mostly looking good for Liverpool on the injury front now with Dejan Lovren back in training following his injury leaving just Joe Gomez in the treatment room. Long term absentee Alex Oxlade Chamberlain made his return to action playing around 40 minutes for the U23 side against Derby and while he came off after feeling something in his hamstring it is not thought to be serious and there were no problems with the knee that kept him out for a year. It will be a process to reintroduce him into the team and so there is no chance he will play any part against Burnley but it is great to see him close to a comeback.

Roberto Firmino is likely to come back into the starting lineup after his ankle injury at the expense of Origi who didn't look bad in his recent games, but with pressure on Liverpool to win all 9 of their remaining games Klopp is likely going to play his big guns whenever he can. Mo Salah is on a dry spell, by his standards, and is without a goal in 4 games. Klopp is unlikely to even consider dropping him but will be hoping he rediscovers his goalscoring touch soon. Joel Matip has been impressive over recent weeks and so is likely to keep his place despite Lovren's return to fitness, midfield is really the only area there may be more changes with Keita likely to come back into the side in the hope of adding some more creativity.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has three absentees with Steven Defour, Aaron Lennon and Jonathan Walters all out with injuries. His side are on a run of back to back defeats in the league after being beaten 2-0 by Newcastle and suffering a 1-3 loss against Crystal Palace last time out. Before those losses, they had enjoyed some good form including a notable victory 2-1 against Tottenham and drawing 2-2 at Old Trafford against an in-form Manchester United side. Burnley have a dismal record at Anfield failing to win in their last 11 visits in the league but they did hold Liverpool off last season and take a point in a 0-0 draw, a scoreline Liverpool has been seeing a lot recently.

Last time the sides met at Turf Moor in the reverse fixture Liverpool came out on top winning 1-3 despite starting without a few of their key players. It wasn't as comfortable a victory as the scoreline may suggest though with Burnley causing Liverpool problems and remaining in the game until the very last moments. The scoreline was 1-1 until Liverpool threw on Firmino and Salah who helped Liverpool take the lead and then seal it in injury time but it was a hard fought game as I expect the one tomorrow will be too. It will be interesting to see if the fans respond to the manager's plea and create the desired atmosphere with Liverpool hoping to end the season strong with a run of 8 consecutive victories.

it will be an important game for Liverpool

I'm glad Liverpool won. They spoilt my bet last time. If they don't do all to win the league this time, I doubt they will win anytime soon.
