Sustainable Development Goals #17: Partnerships for the goals

Sustainable Development Goals: Global goals for sustainable development.

An end to extreme poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change. That is the core of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) have adopted this development agenda for 2015-2030. The agenda consists of 17 goals. These SDGs are fully called the Sustainable Development Goals but are often abbreviated to SDGs. They apply in all countries and for all people.

The seventeenth and last goal: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

"The sustainable development goals are a to-do list for people and the planet, and a blueprint for success," said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the launch of the SDGs. "We will also need a new global partnership," says Ban ki-Moon. "We need action from everyone, everywhere. Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals are our guide. "

Collaborate

To achieve all goals by 2030, governments, companies, citizens and organizations need to work together. This mainly concerns technology, knowledge transfer, trade, data, policy coherence and financial flows. Official development assistance (ODA) amounted to $ 135.2 billion in 2014, the highest level ever. The indebtedness of developing countries remains stable at around 3 percent of export earnings. The number of internet users in Africa has almost doubled in the last four years, but more than 4 billion people do not use the internet, and 90 percent of them live in developing countries.

A successful agenda for sustainable development requires partnerships between governments, business and civil society. Shared principles and values, a shared vision and shared goals are needed on a global, regional, national and local level.

Investments

Long-term investments, including foreign direct investment, are needed, particularly in developing countries, in renewable energy, infrastructure and transport, as well as information and communication technology. Legislation needs to be adjusted to attract investment and promote sustainable development. National supervisory mechanisms such as audit institutions and legislation need to be strengthened.
