The Dalai Lama is the most remarkable 'good' man in our world.
Is this too much of a a grandiose statement for one Buddha monk compared to the many other religious and political leaders in our world? Maybe it is for some and maybe not for others. This is the beauty of individual perception and free will.
I personally have much admiration and love for the Dalai Lama because regardless of the adversity that has been thrown at him he has never strayed from the path of working for the good of everyone in this world. It has been 62 years since becoming a refugee, leaving Tibet for a free life in India.
Instead of finding seclusion in one place overseeing the spiritual growth of his people he instead has chosen to travel all over the world spreading good will, love, humour, teachings and all with an open mind.
The world is his congregation.
The Dalai Lama is a man on a mission to achieve happy morally responsible good people in a peaceful world. He acknowledges that while praying and good wishes have their place it is not enough.
It is a must to take action, to walk the talk, working with science and treating all people that same no matter who they are, no matter their religion, political views, culture and attitude.
I believe that there are many everyday people doing their bit of good in their neighbourhood. The Dalai Lama just does his good on the world stage. Daniel Goodman title of his biography of the Dalai Lama says it all, he is a 'Force For Good.'

We have many Buddhist monks living here on PEI. I often see them at the grocery store in their orange robes.
Do they smile and talk at all @redhearpei?
I think they usually have an interpreter with them when out in the community. The men monks tend to avoid looking at a person but they do open up their monastery once a year and invite the community to visit. I will have to go sometime.
Now that would make an interesting trip. I would love to go and have a peak.
