I love this question. It shows the interest of the person to care for his or her children.

Personally, I believe it's inherent for parents to feel love for their children and it's a matter of learning how to appropriately express this love to them. And as humans, our main source of example to express this love is through our own experience of how we were loved by our parents or guardians. Fom this, we 'copy' how we were loved.

However, the reality is that we have different backgrounds and some may not have had that 'perfect' or harmonious home. And it's during these times that one needs to seek help and find good examples to help one do the right thing.

Words from my mentor came to mind as I wrote this -- a wrong cannot make another wrong right. To say it another way, only a right can correct a wrong.

So to end this, if you already find yourself in a parenting position and you're asking this, follow your heart and look for examples (not in movies but in real life) from personal or from others people's experiences to serve as examples. It's somehow challenging . Love is not just about material stuff. Love can be felt in different ways - through cooking for children, through preparing for their thinga for school, through buying their milk, actions, through talking with them, through teaching them in a level of language they will understand based on their age.

And finally, if you're looking for a book on parenting along these lines, then I suggest one that I've read -Teaching Your Children Values by Richard and Linda Eyre. And most importantly, the best-selling book of all time - the Bible.
