India is the second most populated country in the world. There are thousands of young children who would go hungry on a daily basis if it were not for the free midday meal, provided by the school.

The video above shows the case study of Karnataka, India. Free meals are provided to children on school days. Organizations such as the Sri Sathya Sai samithy and Iskcon Hare Krishna's, work with the state govt. and help provide hot meals.
In some states like Maharashtra, five kilos of rice are given, monthly to students below the poverty line.

It is so heartening to see the happy faces of the students for many of whom, this is the only meal of the day.

Think twice before you throw away food, the next time. Also, refrain if possible from paying a ridiculous amount for a gourmet dish. Why not donate the extra money to poor feeding programs for students and homeless people.

I live in Kerala and here we have the state govt. helping not only children but also providing nutrition to pregnant ladies, old people, and undernourished girl children. It is a really good program. The kudumbashree program is yet another initiative which helps unemployed women to group together and works for their own betterment. They are given funds to start their own small-scale industry or do farming or work in public places like cleaning the road etc. The women are paid through their bank accounts so that others do not misappropriate it.

Sometimes, women also work in schools to cook the midday meal.
