It's her first ever songs, and it seems the lyrics has become relatable to many when it became a big hit worldwide. Regarding the song, I also see it about a person who breaks a lot of hearts.

Jar of Hearts cemented Christina Perri to a higher status when it became a big hit. It peaked at number 17 in America, but its sales was huge and it stayed in the chart for many weeks. It even reached the top 10 in many countries which also included UK, where it was a number 4 hit based from OCC. It was also viewed more than 321 million from YouTube, a good amount of views for a breakthrough singer.
