Eichhornia, water hyacinth, is a genus of aquatic plants in the Pontederiaceae family.

Eichhornia species are water plants that grow very fast and mostly in the tropics, including Aceh one, water hyacinth almost throughout Aceh growing, including where I live in Aceh Besar.

Hyacinth will cover the entire lake and pond, this dramatically affects the flow of water, blocking sunlight reaching native water plants, and oxygenated water hunger, often killing fish and other animals that live in the water. Plants also create the main habitat for mosquitoes.

In Aceh, water hyacinth is a less useful plant for the daily life of the community, but almost half the lakes and fish ponds are filled with water hyacinth. Some fish can live and eat it like catfish and cork fish.
