The True Power Of Steem?

in #mallsballers5 years ago (edited)

Everyone here boasts about Steem. I mean, who wouldn't right?

You're getting paid to post content on a social media platform (with share2steem.io, you can share your mainstream social media content back onto Steem and get paid for it too). What's not to love?

There are various efforts to onboard new people to the steemit platform, whether it's from @blocktrades, @steemonboarding, @coruscate, @oracle-d, @nathanmars' #Seven77 movement on twitter, @rustle, or even #steemtorch.

All valiant efforts by everyone involved.

However, what if in the process of onboarding someone, you needed evidence to back up your claim about how good this platform is?

This is where this experiment comes in.

It all started with a simple question:

Ice Cream Sundae.jpg
Can this hot fudge sundae pay for itself?

I know, I know. It sounds crazy, especially since the price of Steem is rather low right now. But it's an idea that started to form over breakfast with fellow Steemian, @mattclarke while in Sydney. What if the price of Steem was such that you could order a meal, photograph it, post it to Steemit.com and the upvotes would pay for the meal itself?

But then I realised that the price of Steem is only as important as having the numbers of followers who are willing to upvote your meal photos. Don't you want to disrupt the FIAT system by rendering it useless?

The large hot fudge sundae cost me AU$4.25 which means that this post would need to attract 9.70891492 Steem or more worth of upvotes to break even.

Yesterday I uploaded a DTube video that is paying $19.61 STU at the time of posting this.
So, it's definitely possible.

While I agree with the @contestkings philosophy of "No upvotes, no resteems" with their contests and I would normally adopt that here if this was a competition but this is an experiment.
Think of this as acting like #steemtorch but FREE and FUN!

So, please feel free to upvote and resteem this post.

Note: If successful, any excess monies will go to charity.

Let's keep hoping the market turns around!

It's starting to improve. Not as much as I'd like obviously, but this post has done quite well considering.

Here’s my .33 vote towards the sundae! Good luck with your experiment! 😜

Thank you so much. I think there needs to be far more humour here on the block-chain. :D

What do you think the result was? I'm writing an update soon. :D

The math is a bit different, but my @tasteem reviews with @fitinfunfood are paying for some of my meals in Malaysia now. The food here is cheaper than yours, but I am still happy.

I have looked at @tasteem and thought of contributing to it but I'm not sure that I would meet all of their rules.

This post wouldn't, for sure.

Here are two tutorials I wrote about it. It's pretty much like anything else here:

Thank you.

Let’s hope you get there 😀👍

When Steem was US$5, this post would have already bought 2 of them.

Now, this relies on the upvotes and resteems of the community. Let's make it happen.

Sneak preview of my next article: It made it.

Yay!!

You should check out @steem.ninja too. It is a great way to help people onboard with a small delegation to get them going. This is a great idea to see if you can pay for the sundae with the post rewards.

Thank you. I will check them out.

Loving your experiment dude

Have a lovely Sunday

Thank you for the comment and the upvote. I hope this gets resteemed and shared everywhere. It adds weight to any onboarding efforts if a post can pay for a meal or whatever the steemian is doing.

You will love it more soon. I will update everyone soon.

hahahaha lovely experiment!!

yes i do believe meals can surely pay for itself with steem involved in there, but true...amount of followers (and how much sp your followers have DOES matter in this one :D

on my current posts in the current state a bag of m&ms will only do the trick, and I want the lobster meal :D

It depends on the meal in question, how many upvotes from upvoters who have a lot of voting weight, etc.
And yeah, normally my posts rarely break the 1 Steem mark. But my focus here was on trying to bring the community together for something awesome.

As it stands, if Steem was still US$5 it would have covered 3 of the hot fudge sundaes.
I think it will be close, but it depends on how many upvotes it gets. I am really hoping it gets more resteems though.

I honestly believe that currently resteems arent doing the trick as well as not that users are that active (and especially on mothers day hahahaha)

There are still some big players on the platform and if I can get their attention, then they'll resteem and upvote this. I have already got the attention of a few orcas.

@ned, @yabapmatt and @aggroed need to see it too, lol.

Fun times for those who get it!

May you get all the fun you want. :D

You couldn’t have bought a pack of gum instead?

Not really just a sundae but also the thoughts around a sundae. Bon appetite:)

I thought the image was good enough for a few upvotes, but decided it would be rather meta if the sundae paid for itself.
