in #mankind5 years ago

A recent report shows that over the past two decades we have lost a tenth of wildlife primarily "thanks" to the mining, illegal logging, agriculture and oil and gas industries.

This means that from the 1993 area of the size twice that of Alaska was devoid of plants and animals that depend on it. Wildlife today represents only 23% of the total land mass of the Earth.

"The continuing loss of wild areas is a significant global problem largely irreversible outcomes for people and nature," says an international team of researchers who conducted the study, published in the report.

"If the trend continues, this would mean that after a century there will be globally significant wildlife on Earth."

Researchers have discovered that the Amazon and central Africa have suffered the most.
