Under My Pink Umbrellas

One of the prime shopping and restaurant districts in Vancouver is Yaletown. Built on the old railway district and the site of Expo 86 is a plethora of modern glass condos. Its historic past is gleaned from the remaining warehouses and raised platformed walkways. I will give a street view in a moment. First I had to share this wonderful art installation of pink parasols outside the Yaletown transit station.

Perfect for Sakura in Vancouver. Imagine when the trees bloom above and the petals fall. It will be quite magical. In the meantime we have the play of light and shadow to keep us bemused and oohing.

As promised here is a street view of Mainland. At the end of the street looking a little like the Roman Coliseum is the Vancouver Central Library. The Mainland walkway is raised because once upon a time, train cars would be parked alongside and be unloaded right into the curbside warehouses. The trains are gone but they left behind a distinctive character. Nice to stroll without concern for traffic. There are countless restaurants to dine at and most of them have pretty reasonable happy hour fare. Add to that no shortages of boutiques, gift shops, and art galleries and it is a shopper's heaven. They also host a pretty amazing Trick or Treat event for the kids come Halloween and a series of festivals throughout the year. A great place to spend a sunny afternoon.

Those parasols are lovely! Such a beautiful idea. And it is does look like a perfect day and place for shopping or dining out.

Oh I meant those pink parasols just incredibly beautiful?

Yaletown seems like a trendy little place to spend time in. I do love when a city makes an effort to bring the historic past back in a modern way that can be enjoyed by many. I do like the street view and we have many of those little pockets of beautiful around Washington DC, where they have taken an old train station or post office or even a warehouse and built it into something that maintains the history yet and say another dimension by putting in an art gallery or a place for Gathering. As a matter of fact, in Alexandria which is right outside of Washington DC, on the water front, the old torpedo Factory is a unique blend of art galleries, and different Crafters. It's an amazing space and they even use it to hold affairs.

I love that yours has countless restaurants and gift shops and boutiques. They truly are a Shopper's Paradise and how cool but they do something for trick or treating and probably most of the other holidays are seriously defended here. I am going to the Japanese street fair here in Washington DC this weekend as they hold their Sakura then, and there will be a parade to wind up the Cherry Blossom Festival. Don't you just love how these cities make pockets of fun? Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to take pictures and make a post out of this for the challenge. It is much appreciated and as always I hope you have a most fabulous day!
