For today's weed news we go to the great state of Massachusetts.

As you may already know, Massachusetts is getting ready to become the first state east of the Mississippi to allow the use and sale of recreational cannabis!

So what exactly is it that people will be allowed to do once the law kicks in in July?

Well, people over the age of 21 are going to be legally allowed to carry 28 grams of cannabis on their person out in public. People will also be allowed to have up to 10 oz of cannabis in their home.

In addition, Massachusetts residents will also be allowed to grow up to six of their own cannabis plants!
The total plant count per household however, regardless of how many people live there, will be limited to a dozen plants.

That does not sound bad at all!

Legal cannabis dispensaries in the state are going to be required to have all of their product laboratory-tested by an independent third-party to make sure that all of their pot is safe and meets quality standards.

None of this would be happening if the government wasn't making money off of it, so the law also calls for a 17% state sales tax on cannabis transactions. The Massachusetts recreational Cannabis law also leaves room for an additional 3% local tax to allow local governments to make some revenue as well.

Although the plan was to have recreational marijuana sales begin July 1st, it looks like that date might get delayed a week or two because of licensing delays. The state seems to be having some trouble getting the licenses to the dispensaries on time.

So it looks like before the end of July, Americans on the East Coast will be enjoying legal recreational cannabis for the first time in history.

And that's what's up!

Lol so legally you'd have to buy ten seperate ounces and bring them one by one to your house to be at the legal limit lol.

better that then being able to buy 10 zips and only have one at the house =`)

What if you bought like 11 oz and you get home there's like 20 cops in your house lol.

The 10 ounce limit is likely meant for people growing at their homes. Although we feel that will be making a lot of home-growers skirt the legal limit if they have 6-12 plants. Especially those that are doing outdoor grows. As a single plant could yield well about 16 ounces.

This truly is a wicked exciting time to be living in Massachusetts.

Great post KP!

thanks man! ya that makes sense. 10oz from 6 plants for a novice grower would sound about right, but like you said, outdoors if you know what you're doing you can pull crazy amounts off 6 plants!

It's like a storm in US. Before you know Texas will go legal :)

these next few years are gonna be exciting for sure!
