Metal Weekend: Black Sabbath, Pantera & Van Halen

in #metalweekend6 years ago

This is my first post for #metalweekend, so I've decided to share 3 of my all time favourite metal tracks.

Make sure you check out @detlev's post if you want to join in on the fun!

Special thanks to @slobberchops for inviting me to try this out.

Black Sabbath - War Pigs

One of Black Sabbath's most popular songs and one of my personal favourites. Heard this song for the first time when I was 8 or 9 years old, didn't think much of it at the time, but I've come to really like it later on.

Pantera - Cowboys from Hell

This is one of those songs that immediately get your heart pumping. I clearly remember hearing it for the first time when I was in high school, immediately loved it! I've picked out a great live performance which features Dimebag Darrel. Enjoy!

Van Halen - Eruption

My brother introduced me to Van Halen, because his guitar teacher claimed to have performed together with Eddie Van Halen. I have no idea if the story was true, but it stuck with me. Now, most of you might classify Van Halen as hard rock, but I'd say his early work is definitely more metal. Eruption is just a great song, damn those guitar solos....

PLAY IT LOUD!!

War Pigs is my favourite Sabbath song without a doubt, and I picked it up from playing Guitar Hero II :) It was on the track list, and got into me.

The Eddie track sounds almost classical near the end, strange from a guitar.

I know that Cowboys From Hell is also in one of the Guitar Hero games, maybe the first one. Come to think of it, I've found a few really great songs through that game :)

Would you still consider that Van Halen track metal? I've read some different opinions on Quora etc.

I'm not sure about metal, its a typical Eddie sound though. He has his own style and you can hear some of the similarities in the Beat It solo.

Yeah, most people seem to think his earlier albums are more towards the metal side, while his later ones are more rock. It's definitely a very recognizable sound.

That's indeed pretty similar, but ain't no metal :P

@daan Not into Metal music, my sister and brother in law is!
Great to see another Belgian on the blockchain!
Cheers,
Peter

It is a good day for some metal actually.

Next one up... Im broken Pantera, folowing a burn my eyes from machinehead
