The Ancient River of Bangladesh

The Brahmaputra is one of the oldest rivers of the world history. It is the only river of Bangladesh which has changed it own directions. In Bangladesh, the Brahmaputra river is joined by the Teesta river, one of its largest tributaries. There has two branches. The eastern branch formerly the larger, but now much smaller is called the lower or old Brahmaputra.

Mymensingh district stands just beside the old Brahmaputra river. It curves southeast to join the Meghna River near Dhaka. The Padma and Meghna converge near Chandpur and flow out into the Bay of Bengal. This final part of the river is called Meghna.

Many people of Mymensingh district depends on this river for their livelihood. As you saw in the picture there are some boats and people are waiting for boats for transport. Many people earn by riding boat and many people earn by catching fish also.
