This question gets thrown around quite a bit in the finance world, especially when it comes to income.
How much money would it take for you to be happy?
How much money would it take for you to walk away and never worry about money again?
The answer to those two questions is likely very different but a headline came out recently that got me thinking about that first question very much.
A Goldman Sachs VP out of San Francisco was charge with insider trading.
That isn't shocking in the least, what is shocking is the dollar amounts.
You see, this guy was said to have netted about $140k from 2015-2017 by placing trades through his college buddy's account overseas based on non public information related to clients Goldman was working with.
That might sound like a decent amount of money, because it is, however, it's really not that much when you venture into the world of Goldman Sachs.
You see, VPs on average make about $180k per year, and those are the average ones. I have no idea what level this guy was or how long he has been with the company, but we can safely assume he was making somewhere around $180k per year.
Why in the world would this guy risk jail time, and public shame in order to net an extra $140k over 3 years?
That isn't even one year's salary?!
It brings me back to that first question...
How much is enough for people to feel secure?

I’d say one million, but with everything paid off... zero bills to pay.
Princeton did a study that found people were happy once their income reached $75,000 per year. I am sure that is not enough for some people and to some that may seem like a lot of money.
