#ulog 25 - Monochrome Monday - Downtown Historical Buildings
A three block radius in our downtown business district shows the history we have in this small town. These buildings wer all built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, yet still, stand and are in use today. The building above, as the sign says, holds an antique store. Appropriate for the antique building! This is the second story of the building and where those windows are used to be residential apartments, but that part is no longer in use today.
This building currently holds an abstract and title company that has been in business for generations of the same family. Here's the front door of the business:
In the next block, we find the Perkins Building that was constructed in 1893. The building says Perkins Block so the Perkins family must have owned the entire block at the time of construction.
I hope you have enjoyed viewing some of the historical building of downtown Vandalia, home of the Illinois State Capitol when Abraham Lincoln was the governor.
