Stone guardians watch over the entrance of
the Pura Ulun Danu Batur
Bali ~ Indonesia

The Pura Ulun Danu Batur
or the Lake Batur temple sits at the largest lake on the island of Bali!

This current temple built in 1926 was relocated together with the village of Batur after the volcano erupted, and currently lies close to the upper rim of the caldera of Mt Batur, at approximately 1,500m above sea level

No surprise then that since it was drizzling when we got there, the whole temple grounds and structures were enveloped in a mist which made the atmosphere even more mysterious and enticing!

I'm so amazed at the skill of the makers of these. It's just incredible that they even exist. Like who does this now? Anybody? :)

Oh yes... The Balinese are really creative, talented and hard-working!
They excel at carving stone, wood, painting, almost any arts you can think of!

Ok so tell me the truth. Lol. They don't do large scale stone carving and temples anymore do they? :)

Lol... Ohhhh yessss, they do!!! :D
When travelling around Bali, you actually see workshops on the roadsides, the craftsman working right there... I have posted photos of them working on the items - and you also see temples being built, exactly the same traditional architecture... The Balinese adhere very strictly to the dos and don'ts, as well as all traditional beliefs, hence the structures and layout (which all have special meaning) are still maintained til this day! I kid you not! ;)

Temples like the old ones? Really? I'm very impressed! :)

Yup... temples like these old ones... :)
In fact if you were to visit Bali now, bet you will come across one of them in the process of being built - exactly like the old traditional ones! As I did! :)

That amazes me. I rarely see anything built with quality anymore let alone stone carving! :)

Beautiful entrance of a temple.. awesome photograph my friend..
