Staghorns

We wandered into this Balinese compound and found a wonderfully landscaped garden
Near the end was this tree with this huge growth, tumbling halfway down the tree
These are staghorn, otherwise known as elkhorn ferns
Often mistaken for a parasitic plant, they aren't!
They are epiphytic, growing on the tree but has its own nutrient sources, i.e. the air, rain, etc
And they don't affect the host negatively either

This one didn't... as the host tree which looked like a frangipani but I could be wrong as it was a very fertile spot with lots of surrounding tree and plants inter-mingling happily... well, the host was quite healthy
What I found odd was that the healthy fronds, meaning the fresh green ones... were growing downwards... whereas the ones facing up were the brown dried and dying ones!
Kinda an upside down plant!

The landscaping was wonderfully done, with a good variety of plants and trees of various shapes, sizes and colours ~ if you didn't know you were in a garden, you might be mistaken and think you were in a fertile natural jungle instead!
