My Argument For Guns
In the movie Fight Club, Tyler Durden talks about the illusion of safety. Universal background checks are just that an illusion of safety, in reality, they are just a regulation that prevents people from protecting their families.
In my opinion, more good people with guns is the solution to putting down the bad people with guns. Let's be honest, we usually have to wait for law enforcement (the good guy with a gun) to take these shooters out anyway.
We need to stop pretending we can get rid of guns, at this point with the right tools a person can build their own guns. With the advent in 3D printing, this will only become easier and easier over time.
My argument for the gun debate begins and ends with facts. If you look at the numbers, guns are a significant net good for society.
Fact 1: 500.000 to 3 million people protect themselves with the defensive use of guns annually, let's split the difference with the median and say 1.5 million
Fact 2: 36,000 people are killed by guns annually, the vast amount being suicide and gang violence.
Fact 3: Of those gun deaths a few hundred were with rifles.
Fact 4: Not a single mass shooting would have been prevented by universal background checks, in cases, where there were red flags current laws should have prevented the person from obtaining a gun yet they didn't.
