Should You Make the Leap Into Your Dreams? // The Analogy of the Bridge

in #motivation6 years ago (edited)

Hi Friends!

One of the things that is really top of mind for me lately, is this idea of taking the leap into my dreams. I have been listening to a lot of interviews, podcasts and talks on the subject. It seems like the collective consensus seems to be "Just do it!" I do think there is a lot of value in the power of intention, and so I can definitely see how devoting all of your energy to your dreams can open more doors and attract more opportunities to you.

Then... the more practical side of me steps in.

Is it really wise to make the jump this early? Should I wait until I am more prepared or financially setup?

The Analogy of the Bridge

One thing that has really helped give me perspective is this idea of building a bridge. Instead of just taking the leap and hoping the universe catches me, I am viewing every action I take as laying a brick on my bridge.

For example, every time I make a post here on Steemit - it's a brick on my bridge. Every time I go into that corporate day job and collect that salary - it's another brick on my bridge. That way, when I'm ready to jump - I hopefully won't have as far to jump. Because i've been building the bridge to my dreams, the distance will be shorter.

This may not sound like the most motivational talk, but I think it's important to consider different perspectives. I do think there is value in making the leap and just going all in, but I do think there can be a middle ground where you spend some time laying a foundation and slowly building towards something.

Thoughts?

I hope that some of you found this analogy of the bridge helpful! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Is it better to just jump in and figure things out as you go, or take a more calculated jump when there is already a foundation in place.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and chatting with you in the comments!

Ps... Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Don't forget to call your mom today if you haven't already!

Equipment Used in this Vlog

In order to add an extra layer of transparancy and value to my vlog's, I will be adding a list of equipment used at the bottom of each one! If you ever have questions about the gear I use, or how I use it - please don't hesitate to ask.

Nice analogy @coruscate. This helps visualize the steps you need to take for success. Every Steemit post is a brick in the bridge, good way to put it! As you build more bricks, the jump is easier to the other side. I feel if one day I can make the same income off of Steemit as my job, then I'll have a very short jump to my dreams :)

Well you are definitely on your way @jfitmisc!! I definitely think Steemit could use more health and fitness content. Maybe it would encourage me to go out and run more often. hehe

I’d like to hear what your dream is! Is it to be a full time vlogger here on Steemit?

haha I thought i'd try keeping this vlog a little more vague...but I can't escape the inevitable question of where my bridge leads to.

My ultimate goal is to become a full time blockchain content creator and travel around to different crypto events to speak and/or attend. Beyond that, I have visions of creating more mainstream content that is aimed at helping people realize the power of blockchain technology and how it can impact their lives.

The caveat for me is that I'm also working my way towards financial independence. I'm hesitant to make the jump until I have plenty of funds saved up so that I have the freedom to create content where and how I choose - based on inspiration and not desperation to make money.

I have SO many thoughts/ideas... I just need to let them sit/ruminate and let the best ideas simmer to the top so I can focus on those. :) It honestly is hard to take action on any of my other ideas while still working full time...but that's kind of the weird corner that I find myself in.

I know... still keeping things slightly vague. ;) Thanks for asking.

Great answer. Thats an epic vision and there is zero doubt you will realize it. As always the timing is the crucial question. For now I believe you are on the pefect path to accomplish it. With you reinventing yourself with every post and layering on more depth and complexity to your portfolio of talents its only a matter of time before your vision is a reality. Its going to be a wonder to watch unfold

I hear that ! Keep going and inspiring day by day ! I have faith in your vision !

I'm in the same boat as you with a full time job and love making videos on the side on steemit. For me I have a certain set goal of steempower so I won't be doing anything drastic until then.

Great mini vlog about LEAping. Pun intented

hahhaha that was AMAZING!!!

It's actually kind of refreshing to find someone else in a similar situation to me. I feel like most of the people I meet on here are entrepreneurs and aren't working a typical day job. One brick at a time my friend!! We will get there!

Ps... I mentioned you in my latest music cover! haha

Just watched, thank you! I'm sure you'll go full time creator before I do! I quite enjoy having my job, gets me out of the apartment haha

Awesome to hear that you still enjoy your job! That can make a big difference. I think full time creator is definitely on the horizon for both of us! 😉

You highlight the juxtaposition between following your dreams vs. working the corporate job that pays a steady income.

I too have been weighing this and in technical terms I think it becomes about how to retire early, or to be financially stable enough to have a 'mini-retirement'.

I agree, I believe the key is to work that job to meet some intermittent goals (i.e. pay off mortgage, build savings) while knowing that you will not be at the job forever, that the job is ultimately simply a means to an end - which is being able to follow that dream.

Glad to hear i'm not the only one struggling with this! haha I definitely think there is value in utilizing a steady paycheck to reach certain goals - but it's just hard to go into the office sometimes when my heart is somewhere else! <3

It sounds like you are working down a great path to reach financial freedom as well. I wish you luck as you wrestle through some of these topics as well! :)

I assume you are talking about your professional goals here. If so, just go for it! In today’s crazy financial markets there are plenty of investors looking to invest in a sound project. Talk to a startup incubator and get things going. Macroeconomic indicators seem to suggest that trouble is on the horizon. Procrastinating is therefore, in my opinion, not the best strategy. Good luck!

Thanks for the thoughtful response @peak-au! Yes, I am talking about professional goals here. I kind of purposely kept this mini-vlog vague because I wanted it to be about the analogy and not necessarily about me! haha

I really appreciate your feedback on this topic. I seriously go back and forth all the time on the idea of waiting until I'm more prepared and just going for it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Your ideas and advice are very practical. We may have many dreams but living expenses as well as many financial issues cannot be neglected. I will probably do similar where I will continue with my day job and build my steemit account at the same time. Since I am a family man, every step I take has to consider my family first. I can only take mostly calculated risk! Thanks for your sharing!

I was in the same situation as you!

I left my wonderful career job at a very early stage to pursue my dreams of entrepreneurship. Looking back at it, I don't regret my decision in leaving at all. You have to ask yourself two IMPORTANT questions.

  1. Are your expenses covered if you leave your career job. Could you sustain a living off of a side hustle or maybe picking up another partime job that will allow you focus more on your dreams?

  2. How much passion do you have on what you would leave your corporate job for. Is it something that you love so much (like myself) that you will leave your career position and happily pursue your dreams knowing that you are making the correct decision.

Once you answer those two questions, you should have a better understanding on what actions you should take.

Overall, you have to be extremely confident if you take the leap on leaving your corporate job. If you don't believe in yourself or doubt yourself, it won't happen. Also, you and I are both young. My degree is always there and can be used as a back up.

Take risk NOW FOR A REWARDING FUTURE. ALL MISTAKES/FAILURE should be done at a young age not later on when we have a family... that's when we make regrets

GOOD LUCK (:
