With The Right Motivation

in #motivation5 years ago (edited)

Do you sometimes like the right stuff needed to continue on with the things you want to get done?

I am not talking about chores and work. I am talking about that one fun project you never got to finish and find it hard to get back to it. I'm talking about that painting you never finished, that story, that knitted blanket or that new stylish makeup you've been wanting to try.

Has it happened to you where you just find that lack of motivation to do anything and you get stuck in that rut for days. And what seems like only days, the week has gone by and another and another and keeps on going without you noticing? The days get gloomier and you take less care of yourself. Looking outside and think how much comfier that couch is and how you've been wanting to finish that awesome show on Netflix, binge watching to see how it ends.

It gets harder to get out of it, harder to climb that mountain and for whatever reason that may be lingering in the back your mind the will to just get out there is harder and it becomes so much easier to forget about the outside world.

And sometimes we want to get out there so bad! And we try hard and we do good but then something happens and we fall back and forget about everything once more.

This post has been something I wanted to write about for quite some time now but I was never ready to put it out there. But with some help and talking to a good friend of mine, @paintingangels, I was able to crush the wall that was blocking my way and start this new thing that I have been wanting to try.

How it starts

It's starts by craving that change. Seeing yourself through the eyes of others and noticing how things have changed for the worst and not wanting it anymore. The need to finally be able to breathe in the good and exhale the bad, getting rid of it for good. But the need has to come from within. From within your gut and in your heart as good intentions doesn't always flourish. You need to want to take action.

What you need

You need to have respect and love for yourself. You need to see yourself yesterday, now and tomorrow. How you were and where you want to be, what you want to achieve.
You need the people. Surrounding yourself with the awesome people. The ones that are upbeat, positive, kind and ready to be there for you. The ones that will not hold on to the back of your shirt but rather hold your hand and help you up that mountain. That is your cheerleading squad.
The music. You need to face the music and listen to the right ones. Not the sappy keep, keep you thinking of the bad music. You need the music that gets you moving, get that foot tapping, your voice humming.

What you will do

Write about it. Write about everything! Write about the mess, the emotions, the gross and disgusting. The good and the bad. Being true to yourself is key and by being as open as can be about it the better you will feel. You will be able to read back on it and laugh. Laugh with others. Laughter brings on better moods and better moods means moving forward.
Set a small goal for starts. Too big of a goal is not seeable. We will become less motivated to do it if it's too hard to see and do. Short term goals mean that we can do more. Leave the big goals for when you become the champion of yourself.
Once you finish your small goal you will feel good about yourself and will bring on more encouragement and happiness. Set another small goal and finish that one. Keep doing that until you feel from within that you are able to add a tiny bit more, whether it be an extra 5 min, an extra day, another page, another color.

Rewards

Nothing smells sweeter than that sweet, sweet reward at the end. Working hard and achieving your goal is an awesome deal, but let's sweeten that deal to make you want it more. Once your goal is done, make an appointment to get your nails done or your hair, or buy yourself a watch or go to the movies. By yourself a kitten. For every goal set something up for yourself that would be an awesome reward. But set it up after the goal is done, for if the appointment is made before it is far too easy to quit, thinking - well the appointment is already made. Might as well go and not waste it.
And then right about how you felt when you do it. Get your reward, do the thing, write about how great you feel and set up your next goal!

The experiment

I haven't asked anyone to try this. This is something I have wanted for myself and just never did it. I don't even have a good true reason why I didn't.
My problem? I stopped taking care of myself completely. Today I am tired of fighting for things that don't mean anything and I want to fight for myself.
What do I want? I want to lose weight. I want a proper routine ( and I really hate routines) and I want to feel good about myself, giving myself worth in my eyes and be physically and mentally in shape. I want that proper strength.

But to do all this I need your help.

What I am missing is the daily encouragement by all the right people. I am finding myself to be on Steemit everyday. This is where I see people. And with the people I will see motivation that I am lacking to continue on passed week 1.

What I want from you? Your motivation. It can be .... Foxy today I want you to do 5 pushups. After those 5 pushups I will send you a foxy picture. Or Foxy today is your day to take 5 minutes to yourself, you deserve it. Spend it wisely cause you may never take back those 5 minutes.
Anything to get me going.
I will follow these steps written above. And when I can (with Steemit being so low atm) I will reward you in return. I will upvote your comment - only 0.01 which isn't enough to reward you kind people but as Steemit rises, so will my vote. And to the one that gave me the best motivation of the week, I will reward with some SBD. This is an ongoing thing.

I need you all as a community to help me through this and when this experiment proves to work, I will start this initiative with other people that want the same thing. I will be part of that motivation for the next person, and the next and the next and maybe even you.

So what do you say? Shall we be a team?

What can I say...? How about: Foxy, I like your spirit! I therefore won't ask much from you. You don't need much more than what you've shown here, so I just ask this: hold this thought, stay the course. 😋

Sometimes motivation works backwards, so just in case, I send your reward in advance; there's 5 steem coming your way, as a symbolic "kick in the but" to stay on course.

With @paintingangels in your corner too, there's not much left that can go wrong!

Seriously; I admire anyone's courage to be this honest and outspoken about whatever they perceive is wrong, what ails them... I'm a not so foxy spirit in that department ;-)

Thanks for a great read @foxyspirit 😍

I have been reading your reply over and over again. This is a huge encouragement to me and very much a surprise!
If I could hug you I would😁

I hold your message in my heart and in my mind and when I feel the need to quit, I will think about the kick in the arse :p

Thank you so much, I am forever grateful!

I am just thinking of what I can write back to you in equivalence to what you wrote me and I can't. You surprised me here. You are one awesome person, I hope you know that.

Hugs from afar!

😍😘🙌💖

This is a brave post. We all need encouragement and motivation from others some of the time. When it comes to tearing down walls, it's easier to do it with a friend.

Absolutely! And being in a small remote town, where the population consists mostly of elderly people, it is hard to find. I love how Steemit comes together and the friends made here are there for each other. That is what I need. That is what we all need. So I look forward to making it work.

Thank you for stopping by, taking the time to read my post and commenting. That there means a lot to me.

I am here for you always, Foxy lady!
You've got this! We will climb that mountain together ❤️

Jesus! Is there any way to love you more?

Let's start climbing my friend! I think my first thing is to start with doing squats! OOOOH YEAH! 😜😁💕💪🏋️‍♀️

Foxy, I want you today to take at least 30' minutes break from your routine and go do something for yourself. Take a bubble bath, go to a spa, hide in your room and dive in a book or listen to your favourite band! Time to relax and love yourself!

Going to hop in the tub soon! I reserved the tub for when the kids are in bed ;)

Also I took a 30 minutes for myself on something that I have been longing to do for months now. Details in my next post when I am able to write it :) Thank you <3

A simple fact: If you wait until you are 100% ready, it will never happen.

The really super duper easy way to lose weight: Take an active job, such as hotel work or sacking groceries or stocking grocery shelves. You will walk miles a day just carrying out those duties. I suggest housekeeping, for real. It's effectively super-low-impact crossfit that you get paid for. Get a knockoff fitbit (or perhaps @actifit) and most importantly, give yourself credit for what you already do. Just because it's your job doesn't mean it doesn't count.

I lost 120 lbs working night audit at a hotel, because I was averaging 8 miles per shift just carrying out my duties. Considering that 1 mile = 100 calories (roughly) all I had to do was eat less than 800 calories before and during that shift... It was completely effortless.

Manual labor is teh roxxor, and your corpus will love it.... Even with my back injury, I try and put in a few miles each day on an elliptical, because my beast is so unhappy just sitting on its ass all day. You must treat your corpus as if it's a pet... be kind to it, take it for walks, groom it well and make sure it's clean.

I promise, you'll adore how much it loves you back.

At the moment I am not working. I am a stay at home mother of 3, 2 are in school.

Most of my weight gain was caused by a postpartum depression that lasted 5 years and now that barrier has been broken, yet still fragile.
There are a few things I did not mention in my post that also tries to hold me back, which is the reason that I must feel that respect and love for myself in order to be ready to do what I need to do for myself. Although you are right, we do not need to be 100% ready.
Losing 120lbs is freaking amazing! Losing that weight just from your day to day work is fantastic! I would hug you for your achievements if I could. <3

Having a routine that works for me is what will be the key to making it work. My life at the moment is on halt while my kids come first. So this routine and exercise will be slow at first. I will probably have to change it up here and there too until there is something I am ok with and can stick to. But it will have to be a complete change. I have to change my mindset, my mentality, my habits, everything. That is the hardest part ^_^

Oh my gods! Then you're already doing miles a day. Like I said, a knockoff Fitbit ($30) or the actifit app, and give yourself that credit, which you totally deserve, for what you do anyway. It make a bigger difference in motivating you than you think. 💚

I looked into the actifit and I am really thinking about it. Although I have seen some posts about it, those report cards and I am not getting it lol. But I'm sure once I start it'll come to me :)

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

That is a great idea! Thanks!

I thought I'd share one of my favorite motivational speeches of all time with you.

Jesus! My sound was pretty high when I started the video. Scared the shit out of me LOL. I love that man! He is a great actor and without looking at all the crap being written by paparazzi, I think he is solid. Got his shit together. I could be wrong but it would seem so, although he is an actor lol.
That aside, thank you Clay! This is exactly what I needed this morning. I have been procrastinating my day in advance. Think, meh I gotta do this, I need to do that, I can maybe just do it a little later. But that always brings me to last minute. The yelling at me video.... I needed that in my face for sure!

JUST DO IT! Nothing is impossible! <3 <3

Not sure of the climate where you live or if you can ride a bicycle or not. We have serious winters up here in the Confederation of Canuckistan yet you will find me riding throughout the year providing the roads have been cleared and are not icy.

It is a wonderful way to get and stay in shape as it is utilitarian as well. We all need transport right? Get a pair of saddlebags and you can peddle to the grocery store!

Three summers ago my daughter was overweight and ready for a change. We began peddling 15-20 kms. a day. By the end of that summer she had sweated off 50 lbs..

She has moved on to yoga and jogging and has lost about 50 more, now fit and trim at around 140 lbs

You might consider a biking exercise machine if your climate is only realistic to maniacs like me. Most folks don't believe the government sends me an old age pension. 😎

Here's a link to some of my favorite urban tours.

Wishing you every success with whatever choice of exercise you decide upon. ✌💛

Hey @novacadian.

Yes winters can be harsh in northern Ontario. Wishing I could take the bike out by my towns roads are not really cleared up well. Sometimes it is cleared in the morning, sometimes noon and sometimes at night regardless if it just snowed or not. They have their own schedule lol. I do have an elliptical though and I am moving things around in the house so that I can get it in the living room. That way I am with the kids and keeping a watchful eye on them.

Thank you for sending me the link. Im headed there to check it out!

An elliptical would be perfect! 10 kms. a day should bring real results.
