Why are goals important?

A Lady was traveling and stopped at an intersection. She saw an old lady there, so she asked >"Where does this road take me?".

The old lady answered,

" Where do you want to go?"

The lady replied,

"I don't know."

Then the old lady said,

" Take any road then. What difference does it make?"

This is the case of many of us. Truth is when we don't know where we are going, any road will take us there.

Being enthusiastic without a sense of direction can be likened to a wildfire, all you get in return is frustration.

DREAMS

People often confuse goals with dreams and wishes. Nah FAM! They are not the same. Dreams and wishes are usually just desires, they need to be supported by direction, dedication, determination, discipline and deadlines. That is what differentiates a desire from a goal!

In simpler words, goals are dreams with a deadline and an action plan. It is passion (not just wishing) with work that turns dreams into reality.

So why don't people really set goals goals?

There are several reasons such as:

  1. Being a pessimist (always seeing the pitfalls rather than the possibilities)
  2. Fear of failure...what if I don't make it?
  3. A lack of ambition.
  4. A fear of rejection...if I don't make it now, what will other people or my friends say?
  5. Procrastination

If I ask most of you now, what is your major objective in life? Many of y'all would probably give me a vague answer like...

"I want to be successful and be happy, that's all..."0

These are not goals my niggas and my babes. They might be goals but they are not clear goals! Your goals have to be more specific and time-bound!

Goals can be:

  1. Short-term: within the range of one year.
  2. Mid-term: up to 3yrs/more

Your goals must be balanced! In terms of :

  1. Family- Your loved ones are the reason to live and make a living.
  2. Financial: career & money.
  3. Physical: Your health, without it, nothing makes sense.
  4. Mental: knowledge & wisdom
  5. Social: are u still really gonna communicate well?
  6. Spiritual: Like I always say, the God-factor is too important.

There are people who are so engrossed in their professional & business life that they neglect their family, health etc. If you ask them why, they would say they are making the money for the family. Don't do things you would regret later! Balance your goals!

What shall it profit a man to risk his health for money and eventually lose the money in gaining the health back?

Scrutinize Your Goals.

Our goals should be high enough to motivate yet realistic enough to avoid discouragement. Mama, don't come & start setting unrealistic goals just because Bejaid said you should aim high.

Note: anything you do either takes you closer to your goal or further away.

You must evaluate your goals...

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Will it get me goodwill?
  3. Will it get me health, wealth and peace of mind?
  4. Can I commit myself to it?

No goal is too small, but it's just always good to aim high. Also, it's never too early to set a goal.

If you don't aim for it, you might never get it. I'm just saying writing a goal down isn't enough, are you working towards it?

Actions to take

  1. Make definite goals
  2. Write them down (as for me, I don't always do this but it actually helps)
  3. Check up on your goals by reading them.
  4. Check your progress periodically.

One more action is to take your goal away slightly from sight. In other words, don't be carrying your goals up and down. Later u wee say aye, u sef you are aye. When you are showing the whole world your goals, kilode. Is it a public goal? Abi personal goal?

It's my opinion, you can take or leave it.

-Even if we miss our goals, it does not make us a failure.

-Delay doesn't mean defeat. It only means one has to replan to accomplish one's target.

And lastly, Activity is Not the Same as Accomplishment!
Just because you are doing something, doesn't mean you are getting anywhere. In other words, that you are busy doesn't mean you are productive.

Thank you for reading 💜. I tried to make this as short as possible.
I hope you learnt a thing or two? 💜💜
