HOW TO CATCH YOUR DREAMS

Everybody wants their dreams to come true. We all want to make it a reality. Everybody wants success, fulfilment in life but not everyone truly makes an effort towards catching their dreams and making it a real, tangible thing.

Everyday people live their lives thinking the world will fit into their plans, their dreams, their every wish but I have learnt time and time again that the world does not give a flying rat's ass what you have planned. In fact, the world was constructed in such a way to tear your plans to shreds if you do not show certain qualities as you pursue the attainment of those dreams.

Dreaming and wishing for a good life is good. It is often said by motivational speakers and others of that ilk, that it is good to dream big. Stepping up to pursue those dreams is also good and fine. In fact, turning your dreams into reality is encouraged by everyone; the rich, the happy, the poor and the most sad of men even say it is so.

What everyone tends to ignore sometimes, or most times even, is that the fulfilling of a plan takes into consideration not just one's need to be rich or to have a child for example but also making decisions everyday and sticking by them.

These decisions are what will determine how quickly and how well one's plans, one's dreams are fulfilled. If a man has a dream to own the biggest and classiest restaurant in his community even while washing plates for a living, he has to make a conscious decision every day that would work towards that goal. He has to bend his thoughts, words and actions towards that goal every day until it is achieved.

To have such a focused attention needs certain qualities, for the road to fulfilment is never smooth. Success doesn't care either way. It was made for man but not to please everyone. Success is not some soft ripe fruit, hanging low on a tree branch, waiting for you to just stretch your hand and take, no. You have to jump, climb, scratch your knees to get to the fruit and sometimes when you get it, it is not what you thought it would be.

What qualities does a man or woman who seeks success, the fulfilment of a wish, of a dream need to have?

I. They need to be hungry for it: It is said that people find a turn for the best in their fortunes at the lowest points of their lives. Why is this so? Well at that point, people become desperate enough to try anything. They lose all self consciousness, self esteem, worry and pride. An hungry man will do anything to get a bite to eat. A man who is hungry for success would go after it with everything he has.

II. They need to be tenacious: Though the world will not hand over success to you, it will also hinder you from fulfilling your purpose, if you are not tenacious enough. You need to hold on tight even when the winds of fate buffet you. You need to stick to the path even when sharp stones cut at your feet and brambles tear your skin. Everyday, despite your tiredness, your empty pockets, your despondency on not seeing the return for all your previous efforts, you need to get up and step out into the world. You need to keep on doing until the universe is forced to bow to your needs.

III. Learn from the past but do not carry it about: People make mistakes all the time, it is human nature. People tend to remember their pasts most of their lives, it is human nature. When two lovers break up after many years of loving, the memories of bad times stick to some people while some remember the good times. Either way, neither of them forgets what they had, no matter how bad it was at the end.

Some people however, have acquired the skill of carrying past hurts and mistakes around like a medal of honour. They tell anyone they meet about it, they see it everywhere they go, on anyone they meet, in any situation they find themselves. What does this do to them?

a. It makes them afraid to make decisions. They question every intended action until it is too late.

b. They cannot work well with people as they tend to be less trusting of the people around them. Once bitten, twice shy, so it is said.

c. It makes them blind to opportunities. As they are focused on the past, they cannot see the present or even a vision of what the future could be. As a result, when opportunities come their way, they miss it.

IV. They need to stay positive: Being hungry for success and being tenacious enough to keep on going is necessary but with a positive mindset, one can achieve a whole lot. There's always someone with bad vibes around you, some Chicken Little screaming the sky is falling! You have to stay away from such people and such environments. To achieve success, to fulfil dreams, one has to avoid negative thoughts, ideas, places and people.

Once you start letting in all the negativity, you soon start to question your dreams. The moment you start finding faults with the size of your dreams, with the audacity of your dreams, you start losing your grip; your hunger disappears and it is replaced by apathy, your tenacity disappears and it is replaced by weariness. You give up and die. Avoid negativity.

V. Always be prepared for the consequences of action: Never think that you can transfer the results of your bad judgment calls, illegal activities, cruelty, etc on another. The world has no favorites. It will dish your reward back to you without bias.

Always do right by the people you meet. Always make sure that whatever you do, you are prepared and strong enough to face the consequences, for there will be consequences.

VI. Learn to enjoy the ride: A lot of people think that the end of the thing is the reward. Yes, you make money, you find enlightenment, you travel around the world, you find love. All of these are wonderful aspirations and fulfilling them is always awesome but the truth is nothing beats the journey.

You find that when you have finally attained your dream, you sit back and turn your mind back to the struggle and smile. Some even miss it so bad that they come out of retirement and start working again. They seek that rush that they had when they pursued something so vigorously.

So enjoy the journey, both the good and bad parts. Take in the scenery, enjoy the people you meet along the way, make friends, have a good laugh, fall in love, make babies, get drunk, live even as you pursue your dreams. At the end of the day, the plan is to be happy and at peace not to be lonely and filled with regrets.

Fulfillment of a dream is a sweet, sweet thing to experience. It is one of the elixirs of life. People who have been able to consistently fulfil their aspirations tend to live longer than those who fail at it. It is not about money or health, it is about happiness and confidence.
