Films with a hole - a common problem of all heroes.

in #movie5 years ago

We all know that someone should raise this topic. Well, my dear folks, Hollywood is obsessed. A real living obsession. And I am very sorry but it is obsession with holes. Yes, dear readers, in recent years, the great hole has replaced the atomic bomb in the competition for the greatest threat awaiting the heroes. Because the holes appear late, unfortunately, the post contains some wild spoilers.

The Avengers - the classic hole in the sky - In what way is the classic? In the great classification of fictitious holes, the classic hole in the sky is called the one from which something comes out - eventually it falls carrying destruction. In the case of The Avengers, this is a hole over New York that combines two dimensions, allowing the alien army to enter the city. Here, the symbol of the threat is symbolically conveyed because, as you may remember, next to the hole in the sky, an atomic bomb appears in the Avengers - cast into a hole in the sky by Ironman. Such a hole seems to be logical - it allows the opponents to appear where they probably could not, otherwise get it and his repudiation requires only a hole to be patched. So we can play a battle scene in the middle of the city without showing us how the "army" broke into the city center. For the Marvel universe, it is a founding hole.

Suicide Squad - a magic hole in the sky - magic is involved in the calling of a hole in the sky - although we do not have a classic hole in the sky, but what happens to heroes rather meets it assumption - the threat is in the sky - attracts things to each other below (cars, fragments of buildings - which can become part of a strange machinery) and store the unknown energy which can be deadly (and it is). A characteristic element of such a hole is that the characters and viewers immediately know that something is wrong with it but nobody exactly explains what we are looking at. There is simply an assumption that if something is very intensely shining in the sky, we are dealing with something very dangerous. Actually, the only innovative element of this hole is that our heroes are not close to it, but they must come. This is a mechanism rarely found in the holes in the sky (unlike holes in the ground, which will also be mentioned).

Fantastic Four (reboot) - a sucking hole - in contrast to the classic hole of this nothing falls, on the contrary, this hole sucks everything in. Of course, this requires two dimensions, but fortunately, as no one ever checks what a black hole really is and how it works, just say, "Oh, this black hole sucks everything in” and you can keep on playing the cosmic vacuum cleaner. An important element of the hole shown in this way is its spectacular nature. If it appears in the middle of the ocean, it is true that it will take water up but somehow it will not look very nice. It's best to show it in a place where there are a lot of things, especially cars. Nothing is sucked up better than cars. Well, maybe except for cows. And one more thing - never say too much about the damage caused by such a hole because it will stop being fun.

Man of Steel - This is not a hole is a spaceship - the case of Man of Steel for some will not be a good example of a hole but because here the energy that destroys the city (lifting and leaving fragments of streets and buildings) is responsible not so much the hole in the sky or in the ground but a spaceship (or something like that because I remember it was not a spaceship in the literal sense of the word). No less puts this solution into the consideration of holes because it all comes down to the same - we have an object in the sky appearing near the center of the sky that wreaks havoc and which raises things up (if we look around the ship after some time, begin to circulate fragments of what has been done to break away from the ground). So this is a typical threat "somewhere in the sky" but it should be said that this pattern appeared very often - in the works on aliens (to remind even the Independence Day) - which is very much in place because who is Superman, if not old a good alien.

Transformers 4- Like a hole, like a ship, like a magnet - actually we should all bend our heads silently over what actually happens at the end of the fourth Transformers because whatever it is should never be confused with cinema. In any case, if we gather in ourselves and try this insult for the sake of film and reason, we will see that over Hong Kong we are dealing with something that actually marks the hole in heaven - the cosmic provenance. There is evidently a ship that theoretically acts like a magnet. The word theoretically refers to the mechanism of action because the magnet pulls things to itself and then throws them as desired. Here, however, we give up our logic thinking how it works because this is Michael Bay's film and from what I learned and the biggest challenge for logic is the scene in which the authorities of Beijing without any thought move to help the inhabitants of Hong Kong. In any case, this kind of hole can be called colloquially "Bay’s hole" that is, what would not be sure to cause a whole lot of explosions.

Pacific Rim - a classic hole in the ground - here we have the case of actually the most classic hole. Its essential element is the fact that it appears on the ground, connects with the second dimension and something comes out of it. An intriguing element here is the location of the hole - not in the sky but literally in the ground, and in a very deep place because under the Ocean. However, if we think about it then the Pacific Rim hole is a hole in heaven - but not in our and in the Kajiu sky. If we adopt such a perspective, we are simply dealing with a movie about aliens that water liquids on the head! Anyway, I met with the interpretation that the Pacific Rim is just a very sad story about Kajiu who send to the ground more and more plumbers to settle the matter and they become a victim of ruthless people. In any case, the hole looks like, and to patch it, you have to throw something inside.

Ghostbusters (reboot) - a paranormal hole - it's actually a classic magical / paranormal hole, but this time sucking in and not up - which in theory makes sense considering that the dead are hidden underground so probably there are ghosts (sense very fleeting word). The hole has a specific color - green which is in an extremely narrow range of colors that are assigned to dangerous holes (there are blue, green and orange). Of course, everything that comes to it is a precipice but this time - interestingly, although something comes out of it also need to save someone who came up with it. However, the most interesting feature of this hole is the fact that after its elimination everything returns to normal, i.e. the building that was destroyed by the appearance of a hole is automatically recovered to its initial state by its disappearance. Very nice hole.

Thor 2 - hole multiplied - let's go back to the old good holes in the sky. In Thor 2, the dark elves waited for many years until the planets set up in the row nicely just to make people a beautiful hole in the sky and that's exactly at Greenwich height. Admittedly, experts say that it is still the biggest nonsense in the film but it is still a very decent threatening earth hole in the sky, recalled with the use of a spacecraft which in turn carried a lot of destruction - one can say - almost two in one. If, on top of that, we take into account that this earth hole in the sky means that it still has holes in other dimensions - probably in heaven it may be the Thor 2 the most holed film in history.

Warcraft: Beginning - a horizontal hole - we were supposed to talk about holes in the sky or in the ground, but undoubtedly we should devote a moment to what we see in Warcraft. This is one of the few examples to show the hole from the side of those who come out of it. In addition, this hole meets almost all the assumptions we would put in a classic hole - it combines two dimensions, something comes out of it and even it is green (or blue depending on who uses it). I am not sure whether orthodox investigators of holes in the sky would take it to the group of meritorious - especially that it is more like a door, but you could argue that it shares with the classic holes in the sky more similarities than differences.

Big Hero 6 - a hand-made hole - I was wondering if the hole from Big Hero 6 which is just a very high suspended portal should be counted among the holes in the sky, but ultimately since the immersive ships matter, there are no rules. This hole, however, fulfills many assumptions - it draws in everything that stands in its way, is a huge threat and no one wants to fall into it. For this is the result of the action of the evil hero and a good hero must close it - which again allows us to place it on the map of bad holes in the films about the super heroes. And if we add that it flashes blue ... seriously only someone without a soul would refuse it presence on this list.

The post in my intention is witty but shows a rather dangerous mechanism. As in the past, the greatest danger was the possibility that someone would fire a bomb so now the destruction of the world usually falls on our heads or crawls out from under the earth. On the one hand, it's very simple - you want to have a battle in the middle of the city - let something attack in the city - it does not even have to be a hole here - remember how in a nightmarish Green Lantern the opponent in the form of a cloud falls on the city? It's a very similar operation in total. But it's not just about the scenery - the danger coming from above is always very spectacular but also - we return to the old Egyptian Plagues and all voices, curses and fiery rains - in other words to what the gods punished us for centuries and what always fell from above. The space above our heads can and is now more explored but every now and then we behave like the Gauls praying that the sky would not fall on our heads.

At the same time, it is worth considering - whether transferring the threat to the sky is - emphasizing that it is a fantastic threat that has nothing to do with what we can be afraid of every day or, on the contrary - a reflection of completely real fears associated with the fact that today, hardly any the army is entering somewhere while wars are being carried out by throwing bombs at each other - which are just falling from the sky. If you consider these considerations ridiculous, it is worth noting that not once did something that seemingly only had the meaning of entertainment turned out to be quite well compressed with social moods or certain fears. At the same time, I would rather put on this cosmic-divine aspect, plus the simple fact that the scene where evil comes from above is very spectacular and in action movies, the show is worth more than anything else. Which does not change the fact that as if one spectacular hole was not so at the end their darning begins to be boring.

Ps. Post does not try to create a reliable classification of all the holes in popular culture, does not try to name everything and - most importantly - does not try to prove that previously there was no phenomenon in pop culture, though it must be admitted that intensification is very visible.
