Movie Review: Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Hey Steem-movie fans

Mr I jump on couches because Katie Holmes makes me all giddy is back as Ethan Hunt. Yes. the man that made himself a household name by suspending himself over a computer and never stops running throughout all these films couldn't run away from another sequel.

So here we are again for the 6th time and I don't know if its because Tom is short or if its Scientology but the dude looks like he has got Benjamin Buttons Disease and simply doesn't age, in fact, he looks like he's getting younger, can someone get me David Miscavige number? I need to know the secrets of L. Ron had for ageing. If you have the answer drop it in the comments.

Plot

To catch up up the shortest man in Hollywood with massive Star Power Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt. He along with the IMF team join forces with CIA assassin August Walker to prevent a disaster of epic proportions.

Arms dealer John Lark and a group of terrorists known as the Apostles plan to use three plutonium cores for a simultaneous nuclear attack on the Vatican, Jerusalem and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. When the weapons go missing, Ethan and his crew find themselves in a desperate race against time to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

As you can tell from the plot summary its not a new concept and sticks to the high stakes mission impossible formula.

My Thoughts

Seeing as this is the 6th movie in the franchise trying to up the ante is going to lead you into the realm of the superhuman. Ethan must have been trained by Kenyan long-distance runners for this one. It's been a running joke (Get it? See what I did there?) that Ethan is always running in MI movies and he doesn't disappoint, he runs so much in this movie it takes it to almost to a point of parody but at the same time produces one of the most epic chase sequences in movie history.

While it is pretty apparent they are cashing in on the franchise with on a cliched "saving-the-world" story, it doesn't mean it's not enjoyable to watch it all play out. There will be plot twists, double agents, secrets revealed and all the typical makings of a spy movie.

However, the way the story is told and displayed it's simply stunning. The stunts are amazingly executed and the landscape visuals leave you breathless as it gives you a real taste of the life of a spy dealing with international espionage.

The dialogue is solid and the humour is subtle and not as forced as what we are used to with action movies of late. The cast is dynamic with Rebecca, Tom, Henry and Alec showing off their star power and acting chops and really sells you on an average story and makes it enjoyable to watch.

My Rating

While it is nothing groundbreaking, it definitely adds to the genre of spy movies and a strong offering for the franchise. I don't doubt for a second that Tom won't be back for a 7th.

In a year filled with disappointing movies, I would have to say that MI: Fall Out is without a doubt the best movie I've seen for 2018 and I give it a solid 7.8 out of 10
