The Godfather Part 2

Vito's rise, Michael's rule

This follows on from the original with Michael now established as the head of the family. This "sequel" also looks back at his fathers (Vito) escape to America from Italy where the rest of family was killed by one of the Local Mafia bosses.

The movie explores the struggles of a young man (Vito) who has to make a living in the promised land while still having the "old" customs, like paying tribute forced upon him. In order to deal with this Vito kills one of the local crime figures, thus establishing himself as a serious man. The result is that the family business is born.

Back to Michael, in order to keep growing the family business he looks outside of neighbourhood towards Las Vegas and also Havana. He sees that there is a lot of money to be made in the entertainment and pleasure industries. It also helps that he already has a few political connections that can help with getting gaming licenses, etc.

However, just like any business, where there is money to be made someone else is always trying to take it from you. Only difference here is that in order to get it they will kill you, and the stakes are high. Therefore there is always one question lurking, who can be trusted and what is their game.

The golden rule as always is that you never go against the family, so when Michael finds out his brother Fredo went against him. Fredo felt cheated by not being appointed the head of the family and was only getting small pieces of the action. This is of course unforgivable by Michael, ultimately Michael has Fredo killed.

This is a sequel that delves deeper into the characters and look at what happens when are prepared to do anything it takes to provide for your family. It is just as good if not better than the original.
