Some films are transcendent for what they represent for the trajectory of actors, producers or directors who participate in them. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) is probably a film best known for the participation of Marilyn Moroe and that renowned musical number "Diamonds are a girl's best friend", that for the challenge of making a comedy about two women struggling to raise their economic level in a conservative world.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a musical comedy directed by Howard Hawks and based on the novel with the same name written by Anita Loos. The film stars Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe.

The film narrates the adventures of two singing friends, Lorelei (Marylin Monroe) and Dorothy (Jane Russell), who board a cruise from the United States to Paris. The objective pursued by women is to marry a millionaire. Lorelei manages to engage with a billionaire (Tommmy Noonan). The problem comes when her fiancé's father hires a detective (Elliot Reid) to prove to her son that she is a gold digger. The character played by Reid ends up falling in love with Dorothy's charms.

The film is the total brilliance of Marilyn Monroe, who begins singing along with her partner, which is one of her specialties. When the decade of the 50s began, the genre of the musical was on the rise.

It is a light and frivolous comedy, designed to entertain, and it does. Comedy has very well-made moments. In that sense, as I mentioned, Monroe positively surprises with one of his most appreciable performances, but we should not be confused, the character is frivolous, like the comedy itself, Lorelei is an extremely frivolous character, and although the character may be unbearable or extremely cocky, it is his performance that must be judged; and Monroe does it very well.

The film is designed for the full brilliance of Monroe, and she dominates everything, and in her unique way, that makes her performance excellent.

In the film materializes the immortal sequence of Marilyn singing in her pink dress, surrounded by the men, who want her intensely, and of women, who envy her with the same intensity, while she interprets the legendary sequence of her song, Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friends, a classic, ostentatious and unforgettable segment.

Of course, how could it be otherwise, Lorelei gets what she wanted, marries a wealthy guy, who solves his life, and with his irresistible persuasion, convinces even the reluctant father-in-law, the beautiful blonde gets married, and she really he loves him in his own way, with necessary money in between, but he does it, with his peculiar philosophy. Disparate, crazy, hilarious, delirious, immortal comedy.

Probably the film has become important because of the presence of Marilyn Monroe on screen, however it is more than that. It also shows the acting ability of Jane Russell, but in particular, the film can be seen as a good vehicle to understand the cinematography of the fifties, the mentality of the time, and even the sexual revolution that was approaching. That's why this title, and what it means in popular culture, is part of the history.

Well, friends, that was all for now...

See you in the future!
