I believe that women who die in their matrimonial home are the true martyrs...

The above statement means that women who die in domestic violent, who never walked out of an abusive marriage, who for the sake of their children decided to stay in the marriage till their husband beat them to death are true martyrs.
Don't get it twisted, i didn't say that.. I heard it from a movie i watched yesterday..

Nigerian movies are making me proud. I remember when i was younger, we looked down on Nigerian movies alot. We could tell the end of the movie from the beginning and so we preferred to watch foreign movies over ours. Anyone that prefers Nigerian movies is local. But over the years, I have seen wonderful changes in Nollywood and i can proudly go to the cinema, spend my money to see a Nigerian move. So yesterday, I went to the cinema with my bestie from college to see 7 AND A HALF DATES, a movie by Toyin Abraham, she is a super talented actress and producer. Watching the movie in a cinema made it more fun, we met new people, talked about the movie and so on.

So this movie is about a young woman, Bisola (Mercy Johnson) who is so buried in her work and as a result of that she had zero social life and she is single while her younger sister is getting married. Now you know how devastating this can be in Africa. She started facing pressure from home especially for her mum to get married.
Her mum will say things like, 'Your younger sister is getting and you don't even have a boyfriend'.. So her dad decided to help her find a man by setting her up with 10 dates, sons of his 10 friends. And every day, Bisola will go out with one of them to find The One. It was the 4th date that made the above qouted statement, he believed that women should stay in abusive marriages for their children, so to him, it is better a woman dies in an abusive marriage than walking away, ofcourse Bisola ran away from that date. No woman will want to be with a man wth such an ideology..

I love the way Toyin Abraham told the story and each character was given an opportunity to shine. It is absolutely lovely. Bisola's mum was played by Sola Sobowale, she brought life to this movie with her impeccable performance. After watching her performance in The Wedding Party, i can't seem to have enough of her movies and ofcourse she didn't disappoint me one bit. Every act of hers is damn funny!. Ofcourse, Frank Donga and Mc lively did great too, they are not just good comedians, they are great actors too. Jim Iyke, made all the girls in the cinema to keep saying awww over and over again. Thumbs up to Toyin..

7 and a half dates is out in cinemas nationwide and if you are outside Nigeria, you will be patient till when it's out online, you won't regret watching it.

Thanks for reading..

Thanks for this. I am a movie freak but I rarely ever go to the cinema to see Nollywood movies. In fact, I was there today to see Equalizer 2 and passed up seeing 7 and a half dates. I will repent of that choice and go see it as soon as i can. Cheers!
