Allow Me To Geek out: Attack On Titan - Season 3

in #movies6 years ago

Hey Steemians

Today I've decided to take a break from some of the sciencey and techy stuff and geek out in a different way. I've been looking for something decent to watch for some time now, feeling like Its a bit of a drought. I'm currently only watching Preacher (since I'm a DC fanboy) and then I found a really good watch lately is Sharp Objects from HBO starring Amy Adams (If you loved True Detective season 1 you'll enjoy this show). While Ozark season 2 will kick off on Netflix this month so there is some salvation.

I felt like taking a break from reading my latest book (Don't worry you'll get a post on it soon, im just about halfway done) and in my desperation for something to watch I found that Attack on Titan Season 3 has been released and we're already 4 episodes in.

Needless to say, the inner weeboo in me jumped out faster than seeing someone put ginger on their sushi. I will admit I'm not really that fond of anime as I once was, many of the stories I feel were replica's of better shows gone by and I simply lost interest in the genre. The only thing I've seen that can be remotely tied to anime was the Batman Ninja Crossover, I really enjoyed it and for more on it you can check out my review here

What is the show about?

Well, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) is a classic post-apocalyptic setting with HUGE zombies like beings attacking the city humans and one of the few remaining strongholds for our race. It is up to special armed forces to defend the wall should titans attack and to buy time should the unthinkable happen and allow civilians to escape in time. We follow the story of Eren Yeager and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, who join the military to fight the Titans after their hometown is invaded.

So whats the big deal about this show?

It’s a good mystery series

It's a dark manga with very little comedic relief if ever and its current over arching story revolves around plenty of mystery. While the world itself and characters with motivations are fleshed out well the characters and the audeince are kept in the dark with the show gradually revealing new information to you over time, all leading up to even more questions. That immerses you completely in the setting while keeping you speculating about the revelation and getting hooked for the next chapter/episode to come out.

Relatable leads

Characters make the show, Goku is DBZ, Ash is Pokemon and Sheldon is big bang theory and everyone loves them. As for AOT half, the fandom hates Eren because he shouts too much. The rest hate Mikasa because she’s too stuck up on the former. But whomever you choose to like or dislike, there are always characters you can relate to.

You might hate Eren for being so loud, but you can’t deny that his desires are real, no matter how annoying he may act in the process. Others may relate to Mikasa sticking to Eren, because you might know how it feels to have only a member of your family left. Overall, there is at least one character you can personally relate to. Be warned this show is very similar to Game of thrones so don't start falling in love with too many characters, they will die and you will take it pretty hard.

Complex topics

The show deals with a range of topics from power, corruption, death, politics, classism, conspiracies, tribalism, self-preservation and so much more. The storyline is rich in subplots and well fleshed out character arcs that you don't often see in your Western shows.

Have your say

What do you think of Attack on Titan? Have you seen it? Will you give it a watch? What are you favourite shows at the moment? Some recommendations are always welcome :)

wow , i love AOT and i love mikasa

Lol I do too, but I’m not really a big fan of Mikasa! I’m scared to like anyone by Eren because they all seem to die when you like them
