Death Wish. Film Review

in #movies6 years ago

Death Wish is a criminal thriller that was put by a very controversial American film star Eli Roth. In zero he appeared co-director Quentin Tarantino in ** Grindhouse ** and ** Inglourious Basterds **. Death Wish became a remake of the film of the same name by Michael Winner, which came out already in 1974. Development of the remake began in 2006, and then take a director's chair and play a major role planned Sylvester Stallone. Then began the leapfrog of directors, screenwriters and actors, which dragged on for 10 years. In 2016 the composition of the crew finally settled, allocated a budget of 30 million dollars and launched the film into production.

The plot tells the story of a successful surgeon and an exemplary family man Paul Kersey. One day, robbers come into his house and beat his wife and daughter. The hero's wife immediately goes to the next world, and her beloved daughter falls into a coma. On this basis, it is quite natural that the roof begins to go. Paul is tormented by gloomy thoughts, he can not sleep and loses the meaning of life. But quite quickly there is a panacea in the form of old good revenge. In general, everything is pretty standard.

In the character of Paul Kersey, the images typical of Bruce Willis of the hero of a single person and the people's avenger who fights against criminals by their own methods have merged. In fact, the whole plot of the film fits in his name. It has no deep thoughts, no clear messages, no special morals. The only topical issue, which is casually raised by the authors, is the free circulation of weapons in the United States. While a good doctor extinguishes assholes and gets into trends YouTube, on the radio and on television actively discuss the moral side of his actions. But there are no special conclusions from this, the filmmakers simply declare problems in the style - "weapons in free access is good or bad"? "A lynching is good or bad"? This ends the whole ideological component, although the outcome of events can in fact be regarded as an endorsement.

Despite all this simplicity, for myself, I was surprised to note that the film does not cause any negative. Honestly, I was waiting for a furious treshak, but it turned out to be an ordinary and quite harmless prohodnyachok. As you know, Bruce Willis in recent years has been removed not only in normal films.

One of the main shortcomings of Death Wish for me was his uneven concept. The film begins as a pure drama: the happy main character loses loved ones and suffers morally. On the stone face Bruce at this moment even strong emotions are observed. But in 10-15 minutes all slides into a third-rate militant. The hero quickly forgets about his grief, takes the trunk, and then easily and naturally goes to shoot people under a foolish muzonchik. As written in the official slogan of the film - "He avenges cheerfully, fun and with taste." This contrast between the dramatic first half and the almost comic second one slightly embarrassed me. Somehow it's not very natural it looks like.

Well, the second big problem was the scenario. The film in places is simply terribly stupid and naive, and I do not even take into account the typical genre stamps and assumptions. There are enough jambs from which I wildly scorched and could not understand how such a thing could be thought of at all. What are only the robbers who broke into the house and asked their victims for a rope to tie them up.

In short, the plot of the movie is stereotyped, the script is naive and stupid, but for some reason the tape does not cause a negative. Personally, I just chuckled at all these nonsense, while visually the movie sometimes even delivered. The action is not enough here, if not to say that practically there is none at all, but in some places interesting enough skirmishes with a demonstration of violent violence. Eli Roth, of course, not Tarantino, however, I did not forget to crush the bad guy's head with a machine. On the acting game, the impressions were twofold. It is clear that there is really nothing to play in such films, but here Willis managed to surprise me. In the first half of the film, he even tried to suffer, let off a tearful man's tear and very intelligently shoveled people away from all sorts of eccentrics. I had a break in the pattern on this occasion because it was very unusual to see Bruce Willis ** as a terpily. But in the second half of the film everything was fixed and he switched on the usual "hard nut" mode.

In general Death Wish is a third-rate militant-prohodnyachok. You can see it, but only with popcorn and only with some incredible desire to go to the cinema.

Look only the best!
