Eye For An Eye is the Record label of the Portuguese producer Gonçalo Salgado aka Lake Haze, now based in The Hague, Netherlands. Eye For An Eye explores non-conformist electronic music that strives to push the boundaries of genres and practices. I selected one track of each EFAE release, hope you enjoy it. [EFAE001] 'Untitled' 12" by Lena Muir & Profil Horizontal

If time was a lost part of Bruno Deodato’s brain and if you could travel back inside it you might find some lost tapes from the first half of the 80s where Lena Muir and Profil Horizontal explored the nether regions of electronic music. Produced somewhere between a basement in Brussels and an attic in the outskirts of Paris, back when tape reel to reels, primitive rhythm boxes and analog synths still carried a vague promise of the future, this music translated a certain atomic paranoia fueled by the cold war industry. Lo-fi music, abrasive, high pressure, dense, clipped to the max like it was intended to punish any woofer that gets between it and the air.

Lena Muir is electronic body music on the verge of collapse: all pounding rhythms and echoes of the city at night while Profile Horizontal sounds like modern architecture exploding in slow motion in a black and white film.

[EFAE002] 'Untitled LP 12" by Gam/Coletivo Vandalismo

Pedro Abrantes and Valdemar Pereira intense and cold approach in the next release of E.F.A.E. would fit perfectly as the soundtrack to David Cronenberg's film Crash (1997), guiding the listener through a world of perversion and obsession. A raw experience, usually of violence, where the human nature is expressed throught old rhythm boxes and cheap guitar pedals, sounding dirty, fuzzy, with a healthy disregard for rules of fidelity or even functionality. GAM / Coletivo Vandalismo emerges like a sonic terrorist cell, out to implode traditional notions of "dance music" infusing a sense of dread and menace.

[EFAE003] 'Vulcao da Cólera'

Raw emotions expressed through distortion pedals reveal the poetic side of rage on the debut of the label curator, Gonçalo Salgado. 'Vulcão da Colera' is an honest exercise about repressed emotions of anger, violence and hate.

[EFAE004] 'Redemption'

Intense drum arrangements, distorted bass lines, and warm synth melodies mark the aesthetic of Foreign's debut ep on Eye For An Eye Recordings. Unlike the producer's previous techno-oriented releases onCologne-based BAROC, 'Redemption' reveals a punk approach regarding his ways of crafting music. From the non-conformist 'Ignorance Amongst Us', to the hopeful 'Hope' theme, 'Redemption' is a non-spoken manifest to a society on the verge of colapse.

[EFAE005] 'Eternal Remorse'

From the rampaging start of the EP, "Eternal Remorse", not a single note, guttural vocal, or fierce drum hit is out of place. The emerging greek artist Boris Barksdale portraits the overall feeling of militaristic order encompasses music and vocal samples. The musical equivalent of that image, industrial society's restless march to oblivion rendered as an infinite dance track, as aggressively vibrant as it is alienated.

[EFAE006] 'Confession'

'Confession' by the Marseille-based producer Loic Bodjolle is a rhythmic centered piece where every track is built around clunky square basslines with repetitive percussions modeled in old drum machines. The combination of distortion pedal squeals and glitches, building percussion and chaotic vocal recordings result in a killer EP by the Frenchh producer.
