Broken 3rds
Today I am focusing on broken thirds on D-Major 2 octaves. I am trying various bowings on this scale.
Two 8ths slurred and two broken
This is a very popular bowing in orchestral music. Today I did two variations:
- Two 8ths slurred followed by two broken
- Two broken 8ths followed by two slurred 8ths
This is just the same bowing patter reversed. The trick here is to try to do the broken bows in the same area of the bow each time. For example, the first two may be a the top of the bow and the second two at the bottom. Bow control baby! It can be a bit frustrating, but well worth it.
ASIDE: You may have noticed the phone attached to my arm. After chatting with @mcfarhat of Actifit I decided to wear my phone or a Fitbit while I practice. This way I can get credit for my practice activities with the app. If you have not started using Actifit you should!! It is a great app. @actifit.
Rock on,
