Today I am focusssing on solo musicians from New Zealand:

Hollie smith

Hollie Smith is a musician who sings in the genres of soul, pop and jazz. Her vocal ability is very powerful, with strong and emotional music - and often performs in small, intimate venues. Along with releasing 6 solo albums, Hollie has also featured as a guest vocalist on number of premier New Zealand acts including Concord Dawn, Fat Freddys Drop and Trinity Roots. Here is the title track from here latest album Water and Gold released in 2016:

Gin Wigmore

Gin Wigmore is known for her mix of rock, blues and pop, and has a very distinct and recognisable voice. Her first album Holy Smoke performed well in the charts, introducing us to her unique voice, and toe tapping tunes. Here is the first single ‘Oh My’:

I was lucky enough to her her live show at the Homegrown Festival, and she had a vibrant full energy show! The second album Gravel and Wine was met with positive reviews, and spawned the song Black Sheep, which did well on the international scene - it was featured in several television shows:

Dave Dobbyn

In terms of musicians in New Zealand they don't come much bigger than Dave Dobbyn. He is a true legend - performing music for nearly 40 years. Dave Dobbyn initially rose to fame as a member of Th Dudes, who had iconic songs such as ‘Be Mine Tonight’, and the classic New Zealand drinking song ‘Bliss’. Years later, Dave moved into recording solo music, and has had alot of success. One of his more most iconic songs (and one that reminds me of home!) is loyal:

Daves solo career has spanned nearly 30 years. He often plays gigs throughout New Zealand, often playing ‘winery tours’, where he performs acoustic solo shows. One of the more know songs in New Zealand in the last 15 years is Welcome Home:

Lorde

Lorde is one of New Zealand's most successful, and well known solo artists in recent history - breaking into the US with her single Royals - which has had an impressive 712 million views on Youtube! Lordes song Yellow Flicker Beat also provided the lead single for The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 movie:

Amazingly Lorde is still on 21 years old, and has become one of the youngest artists in history to have a number one single. In 2017 Lorde released her second album Melodrama, which received positive reviews. Here is the single Green Light:

I hope you are enjoying my selection of New Zealand music!

Wow that Gin Wigmore was pretty cool I'll have to checkout more from her.

Yeah she is really good - I liked the first album of hers best!
