Wings - Let Me Roll It

It's time for the weekly

Beatles-adjacent tune, and I figured I'd go with a classic Wings tune this time. Paul McCartney formed Wings with his wife Linda after the Beatles broke up, and played with the group through most of the '70s. Paul's writing and playing evolved a lot over this time period, and he wrote some of his most complex and interesting tunes with Wings. They didn't have the psychedelic experimental sort of element that the Beatles did, but he was still able to push the boundaries in the rock/pop world, embracing new ideas and techniques. This song is from the group's

1973 album Band on the Run, which has some of their biggest hits, including the title track, Jet, and of course, this song. The main guitar riff is SO awesome and surprisingly heavy, and along with Paul's bass tone, really give the song a serious groove. I love how they move back and forth between the heavy Verses, and the light, sort of floaty organ based Chorus parts. Harmonically, things are pretty basic, but they are able to make it incredibly catchy and interesting.
