Pixies - Velouria

Pixies are one of the

most important bands of the late '80s/'90s, and have influenced entire generations of subsequent musicians. They were formed in 1986, in Boston, MA by Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kim Deal (vocals, bass), Joey Santiago (lead guitar) and David Lovering (drums), though Deal has been replaced on their most recent two albums by singer/violinist/bassist Paz Lezchantin. Their sound came to define the alt/college rock scene that a lot of subsequent artists in the '90s would emerge from.

Listen to Velouria by the Pixies here.

This song comes from

their 1990 release, Bossanova and is one of my all time favorites. The main guitar riff is so cool, its a simple little ascending idea, but doesn't sound like anything else from that era. I really love the guitar tone on this album too, its a lot heavier than any of the previous releases, and less "lo-fi", as they were firmly established on a major label at this point, and had access to a lot more studio equipment and time to work on the album in more depth.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
