Paul McCartney - Junk

As with The Beatles,

Paul McCartney is such a legend that he doesn't really need much of an introduction. He had a major influence on popular music throughout the '60s in The Beatles, and continued writing incredible music after the band's breakup in 1969/1970. His solo albums are really interesting; he sort of stripped everything down, and avoided the extreme production that was used on Beatles tunes and went for a more raw, back-to-his-roots sort of sound.

Listen to Junk by Paul McCartney here.

This song was actually written

while Paul was still in The Beatles, and appears on The Beatles Anthology series as a demo. However, this version appeared on Paul's self-titled solo debut, and sounds absolutely sublime. I actually just learned the guitar part today, so I figured it would be a good song to share. The chord progression is awesome, and sort of reminds me of "My Michelle", with a sort of French/Jazzy vibe. The very first chord he uses in the Chorus is beautiful, and uses both the flat 7 and flat 6 to temporarily give us the feeling of a parallel-minor-modulation, before dropping us back into the Amaj chord. Simple enough, but super-effective.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog!
