'88 x2' - New Original Music/Demo! - 2 Pianos and Electronic Drums in Ableton + Walkthrough!

This song was a little piano jam

over a "drum" beat, although the drums were originally going to be a soundscape/pad sort of thing, but upon accidentally dropping the octave super low, discovered it sounded like weird digital drums, so I worked with it. There is also a new bass line, which just fades in slowly, and is really heavy and distorted. Just adds a little extra crescendo to the end of each section.

Track 3 is our main piano line

while Track 4 is a doubling of that, with all the notes offset by less than a 32nd beat, so it has a warbly sort of effect, but doesn't feel like two different pianos. The basic progression starts with a G# dorian sort of motion, using a sharp 6 of a natural minor scale, then we move to F#/B, then A#/C#, then down a halfstep (A/C), then we end on a B/G#. Each time around, we add more and more notes to the higher range melody in the piano, until the break, when everything drops off, then we build it up again. The very last time through, the two piano lines in Track 3 and 4 actually have a slight change between the notes they play, and we get some weird dissonance that I liked a lot.

Track 1 is the accidental percussion track

and basically just maintains the same beat throughout. A little reverb, and an EQ, and this synth pad wound up being a really interesting drum sound. Track 2 is our bass that I added after the fact, just to help build up the song into the break and the ending. This synth is distorted and deep, and isn't particularly audible until the end of the section. I thought about having it play throughout, but it was a little too much.
