'BitBrain' - New Original Musical Short #3 of 4! Electronic/8bit/Instrumental + Walkthrough!
Last night, I found a couple
of synth samples where essentially it just plays a note, then again an octave higher, and higher once again, 4 or 5 times, so when imported into the Simpler Instrument on Ableton, you can make some crazy, super off-kilter melodies when playing various chords. I wrote 4 songs using these instruments, this is the only one with an electric drum kit, the others all just use a glitchy drum sample, also played with a Simpler.
Listen to BitBrain here.
Tracks 1, 2, and 3 use the samples
in the Simpler, and just play a continuous C note, which because of the sample, rise and falls all over the place. Each of these 2 tracks uses a different synth playing the progression, and at slightly different speeds, so the notes feel super random.
Track 4, electric piano, described below.
Track 4 is the only instrument
in any of the four songs that isn't a Simpler. It's just an electric piano, but I loved the way the chords fit with the crazy, off beat backdrop from the previous 3 tracks. It plays a C5, Dminor, Bbmajor, C7, Dmin7, and finally Dminor, before repeating. Track 5 is the last track, and is our drums. I used an electronic kit, and began with just a kick/snare beat. Instead of adding a hihat rhythm, I used a weird hit called "Metallic", which is sort of a metal/mallet sound. I screwed around with the transposition, which builds up, then slowly drops lower and lower before repeating. Turned out pretty cool, just a simple effect to make things less repetitive.

Hope you've enjoyed the walkthrough! I'll be sharing the other 3 songs like this over the next few days, so stay tuned!
