Grapthar's Song of the Day: New Order 'Age of Consent'
New Order - Age of Consent
New Order are one of the most
important bands of the English Alt./Post-Punk/Goth scene of the '80s. The band was formed by all the members of Joy Division after singer Ian Curtis committed suicide in 1980, and eventually add keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, rounding out the new lineup. The band is known for their more electronic songs that were singles, but they have a wide variety of sounds and influences throughout their discography.
Listen to Age of Consent by New Order here.
This is the opening track
of their 1983 album Power, Corruption & Lies. I was surprised upon first listening to this, the keyboards are not the main focus; instead, the guitar takes the harmonic lead here, and it gives the song a much more rock-oriented feeling. I really like how catchy this is. Often, I associate New Order with a darker sort of aesthetic, but this song is upbeat, musically/harmonically/melodically anyway, the lyrics aren't haha.
