Tappi Tíkarrass - Óttar

Tappi Tíkarrass was a punk/experimental

band from Iceland, and is known as the first band of singer/songwriter Björk Guðmundsdóttir. They experimented with lots of different genres like funk and jazz, and were willing to write much more complex songs than a lot of their punk contemporaries. I was really surprised upon listening to them, its sort of like finding a new "species" of punk that evolved on its own.

Listen to Óttar by Tappi Tíkarrass here.

This song is from their 1982

album Bítið Fast í Vítið, which is available in it's entirety on YouTube, but unfortunately not on any of the streaming services I have access to. You can tell right from the beginning that they were trying to do something new, the super Chorusy-guitars were definitely something that became big in the post-hardcore and goth scenes of the '80s, and probably came from the influence of surf guitar music. This tune has a sort of Siouxsie vibe to me too.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
